I just bought a 2013 E92 ZCP DCT. Your above complaint is the reason why I didn’t go with the M4. I still haven’t driven it home and taken it for a hard drive. It’s still sitting in my brother’s garage. I still have my Z4 3.0si and I have to admit, I probably should have held out for a 6MT. After taking it out for a spin today, it reminded me how I’ll never get to heal-toe on my E92.

I got rid of my 2016 M3 ZCP. And bought a 2013 M3 ZCP.I have never smiled so much. This car is so much
More fun to drive. It never gets boring like the F80 does at times. |

E92 looks dated! V8 sounds good but no torque. I’d never give up my F80 for an E90.

With the f80, I do wonder whether some users are going hard enough to really experience why it's great.
The over engineered engine cooling system on f80 is a great example. To use your analogy, f80 can "go the distance" in any conditions whereas the older models needed to tap out when things got "hot and heavy and really hardcore". Example of high oil temp and rising water temp thread here "Dual purpose" car with track overheat issues is a hard pass in my eyes.... Edit: for street usage, I do agree that high rpm v8 sounds are great. I do have to ask, if v8 sounds are the main goal, then 427ci z06 with exhaust mods or flat plane crank gt350 are even better solutions than e92m |

Nevertheless, I did the same thing...transitioned from a pristine, beautiful tanzanite blue M4 with silverstone interior and big beautiful CCBs (the car was stunning), to a silverstone E93. And have never been happier. Slower, but wayyyy more thrilling for me to drive. And it still looks great, a timeless design with clean lines... |

Yep
All it takes is a drive in an e92 ... esp. 6MT It's exactly what made me sell the M Roadster. It quells the chatter on "lack of torque" and other BS.

I would not go back to my M3 from my M4: It was pretty, sounded great, and a ton of fun. But this car is faster across the board, plants the front end better, and has up-to-date features.
I miss the M3 sometimes, but not often. Cheers

For sure, the S65 had much more soul and character than the S55 does. It had better sound and better throttle response. However, the F8X chassis is leaps and bounds better than the E9X and I am not willing to give that up, plus the extra pulling power of the S55 is nothing to scuff at either. So no, I would not go back.

This is an interesting discussion. I've had both now, and I would never go back to the E platform. Granted, I'm not driving on a track, but as a daily driver, the excitement is much more attainable in my 18. Maybe I'm getting old.
This is a similar discussion on Porsche boards. The 997 guys can't stand the 991. The good news is there are options for everyone. |

part of the e92 hype is the investment potential. I like both the f80 and the e92, but if i can buy a car, drive it and enjoy it for a few years and not lose any money... that kind of outweighs the benefits of the f80.
we all know that the f80 replacement isn't going to be drastically different, just an updated refresh like the f10 -> f90. Whereas there won't be another high rpm NA engine from bmw in the foreseeable future.

I think the issue is most on this board at looking at a single car, daily driver. Then it's a toss up - updated car with newer tech (F80) vs. more visceral (E90).
Think of this scenario: if you were picking one as a 2nd car, weekend toy, fun car, long term keeper. Which would you pick? My bet would be E9x for most folks. Buy the F8x as a DD then E9x as the long term keeper fun toy I went backwards as well. I was going to keep the M2 for DD duties then pick up a low mileage E92 M3 for the weekend toy. However I took it a step further and picked up a N/A V8 R8 for the weekend toy but had to sacrifice the M2 down to a 320i for DD duties. Glad with my decision and never looked back. Now I'm waiting for the 15 M3 to drop into low $30's, at that price point I'll pick one up for a DD to pair with the R8. But the F80 M3 is not a special car like the N/A cars since NA will not be made anymore and the new M3 will just be an evolution of the current. You already see it in the marketplace. A low mileage 13 M3 is selling for more money than a 15 M3. This trend will continue as the E9x will be worth more $$ than the F8x.

M4 on a track is loads of fun at 9/10 or 10/10ths flat out, but on the drive home and around town, not nearly as much. My F82 is brilliantly fun on the track, and is easy to get sideways yet still have control over the balanced chassis, if you're comfortable coming through turns sideways. No, it's not the fastest away around the track, but it sure is exhilarating. And my Tanzanite Blue F82 was gorgeous lowered and with the CCBs.
But, an E92 on a track, and on the drive home, and when running errands, at all times it's loads of fun... And if you supercharge it, it becomes damn near exotic car feeling in its power delivery and thrills. Can't go wrong with either, but I sold my F82, and got an E93....and drive my friend's E92 on track days (we swap cars often). Last edited by KevinGS; 03-29-2019 at 02:01 PM.. |

im getting ready to trade in my E92 M3 comp. DCT, 36000 miles. red. its been a great car, i love it and find it hard to trade it in,
but the 2018 M4 really is nice. i found one with comp package, MPE, lots of other goodies. its Yas marina blue. so pretty. i love all the new technology the M4 has. my E92 has none of that. i do plan on doing a few track days here and there and the E92 ( heating issues etc ) i dont think can hang unless i put some money into it. some other reasons for me trading it in, school/ kids , work. if i dont get a newer car now, i may not get a chance for some time. i tested the M4 comp and it was real nice. HOD, heated wheel, HK sound, parking camera, sensors, touch screen nav info system, the comp package MPE sounds amazing. though my E93 MPE sounds so good i will miss that. so i will miss my E92, but i think its time to move on , i wish i could keep them both, but like most people i cant afford that. so one has got to go. i hope i dont regret trading it in, if so i can always go back...... |

I've been struggling with this a lot lately. I have a 2015 F80, tuned with full exhaust and modded tastefully...it's prob making close to 600hp and it's an absolute beast. And I came from a supercharged E92, which I constantly regret selling. But in between both cars I had an R8 and then a Raptor - I was all over the place.
At the end of the day I think I would miss the insane torque the F80 gives me in every gear. But I miss the soul/sound of the E92. I'm sure a bunch of you know what I'm talking about. Only solution is to have an M from every generation in the garage!
