Steering wheel install gone bad

Ok,
Not easy to post this, have done several steering wheel installs however this time I made a crucial mistake. In short, the clock spring got unraveled and this is not an issue that I have encountered before. Look for any guidance, advice, and help. As far as I have gathered is the steering column might need to be replaced. But hoping this is not the case. Thank you in advance

You will need a new column switch assembly, which houses the clock spring.

Dealer only, you'll need your VIN to make sure you get the correct part number.

This needs to be coded, don't believe you can use a donor unit married to another VIN.

I dont have experience with it but i would imagine you would just update the istep on it and then VO code it. Maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in.

I've found a couple threads of F30 ppl retrofitting used SZL(steering column cluster) with heating and vibration.

Hey y'all just an update:

Was able to find the part used on eBay for 250 bucks. Dealer cost was 780. Getbmwparts was 640. Rolled the dice and went the eBay route. However it is very important to make sure the part number is identical. This will assure that all matching features; lane assist, heated wheel etc are in working order. Bmw and get bmw parts were off by 1 number each even after supplying the VIN.

Long story short it was a complete plug and play. No coding was needed. All features are in working order. Was a 250 booboo

How it occurred- wheel was mounted on steering control unit without steering column bolt attached. I jerked the wheel off (that doesn't sound right ) and it got hung up on the cover of the clock spring. In short, take your time and mind your strength. Lesson learned. Hope this lesson helps anyone else that comes across the install.

Def wouldn't recommend that. If it or unravels def needs to be replaced.
