Ok, M4 back home now. Next track day for it won't be until May 2nd at AMP, which is good since the fault happened on that track before. I've been busy with the E36 getting it ready for a couple of track days coming up sooner, so its been easy keeping my mind off the M4.

Had the same error message. SA said it could be caused by so many different things. In my case, the tech just 'rebooted' the system, as indicated in the procedure algorithm, and all is well.

BTW, I've never tracked my car.

Update: May 2nd at AMP ( http://arizonamotorsportspark.com/ ) went great...

...for 15 minutes into the first session of the day, then same Chassis malfunction and limp mode forcing early exit. Parked car, code and limp mode clears. Went out for session two of the day and the same code and limp appears sooner on lap 2. Parked car, sat, and watched the rest of the day. Add insult to injury, tried to ride shotgun with my buddy in his C6Z, but alas way too small for me to fit. Head hitting roof without helmet on.

I'll be bringing the car back to the dealer for now the THIRD time for the same problem. Quite frankly, I really don't think they have a clue as to what the problem is and am guessing last visit they replaced a sensor in the "hopes" that it would solve the problem.

This probably is a fault with the adaptive shocks' control module, I don't know if it is a separate unit or part of something else. Even when DSC is off the ABS unit will still monitor all dynamics, G forces, yaw, etc. so it can tell the shocks what to do. Since replacing the sensor did not resolve the problem, the next step is to replace the decision, or control, module.

One complicated way to test, if service guys cannot isolate the fault, is to plug in the KW control unit to disable adaptive functions and test with OEM shocks on track to see if fault occurs.

Yes, makes sense to replace the control module. I see what you're saying on EDC delete test. At this point, I'm wishing I had ordered passive suspension.

I have a feeling that they will be much more willing to take a more serious look into the issues, based on the lemon laws that are likely about to kick in.

I usually buy the next new model from BMW as they come out, but got bit a couple times in the past for similar things, and have been monitoring the F8x boards hoping things like this would not come up.

Regardless, I think/hope that you have a problem with your car, not a systemic issue across all of these cars.

I agree with larryn , it appears a problem with your car vs a systemic issue. Question is what exactly is the problem.

I also agree with darge82 That you may want to request a BMW Engineer, escalate the issue with BMW.

I doubt this is a issue, more of a dealership doesn't know what the issue is and how to fix it. I wouldn't have regret on the suspension bro. BMW will fix it, its just the right people need to get involved.

You will have your track car back.

Sucks this happened again bro. Mine hasn't come back, but I haven't tracked my car. I'm wondering if I should take mine to the track and really push it.

I agree that it seems like an issue particular to your car. [In general, the F8X has been pretty solid IMO, first year model or not] I don't blame BMW for doing the least expensive/cheapest/easiest thing first; I'm sure it's part of their algorithm. It just becomes a rather huge annoyance for you. At this point, I'd think it's time for BMW to throw everything and the the kitchen sink at it and get it fixed. GL, and keep us updated.

I'm fearing more cars will have issues as more and more owners start tracking their cars hard. I got mine last August and have tracked it about 8 times, didn't start to have problems til the last few track days. I do think it's something small causing this, they just can't pinpont it yet.

Good thing I have my reliable E36 track car too or I'd be really annoyed.

Alignment is perfect, I made small adjustments for the track, but the code came up before I made those adjustments.

Agree, I'll keep everyone posted. When I dropped it off with last time, I told them to take their time and get to the root cause. I didn't take a loaner and didn't bug them at all while they had the car for 10 days.

Sometimes the old cars are better..Just image what a 918 or another hypercar goes threw to diagnose a similar problem..

I bet its going to end up being something silly like a software thing. That the car is slightly going outside of a set tolerance causing the warning to come on and they will come out with a software fix to widen that value (if it will not cause harm to the car) I think if it was a failing part it would happen more frequent when tracking.

It may be something like since you are running a slightly different size at the track, your circumference is slightly different from stock causing a sensor to read just enough off to tell the computer something is wrong.

Hope you get this sorted Tom. It's a lot of money to spend not to enjoy as you see fit.

Unfortunately this is often the plight of early platform adopters.

Thanks Chris, I'm sure it will get sorted eventually. Only a matter of time before others see similar issue. I should be getting kick back from BMW for doing their R&D.

This has to be specific to certain cars.. mine is sideways near daily with no trouble other than a white car shows tire debris quickly.

Just subbing to this thread. Mine threw this code last night at a track night.

Should we document build dates?

If everyone brings their cars with this issue into BMW, it will eventually get sorted as they see more and more cases of it. My advice is if you see this code... even if it resets itself... take it in for service like MaynardZed did. Otherwise, even if we document build dates, it will just be all of us discussing the academics of it
