Great thread!
I began my journey with BMWs after a trip with my wife to Europe in 1998 in which we drove a manual Audi A6 through Germany and Italy. We loved it and I decided it would be my next car. At that point we had both had only recently graduated from our medical residencies and were driving a Nissan Sentra and Altima. Well, of course I found out that no MT Audi A6s were sold in the US, so I was shunted the a BMW dealership. I had not considered a BMW as at the time for a variety of biased and ultimately unfounded perceptions. One drive I and was hooked. 1999 528i 5-speed 2002 530i 5-speed 2002 M5 (after Spartanburg BMW driving school that my wife arranged for me as a birthday present - one drive of the M5 and i was hooked). Still my DD this many years later. 2007 Z4 M coupe (wrecked by joy riding at the dealer, leading to…) 2007 Z4 M coupe Pictures of my two current BMWs in the garage link. Next year, plan to add an F80.

Impressive lists! Especially the still owned collection. I'd love love love to add a E30 M3 but I can't justify the asking price of a clean example, though they will get worse!
As i thought, we BMW enthusiasts are addicted. ANY M1 OWNERS??

I'll play. Not as an extensive list as you guys, but in this order.
2000 328i TiAG/Silver/5MT/Sport. My first car, and how I learned to DIY a lot of stuff. Had subframe replaced by BMW during recall and it should have been totaled really. By the end, the car had bruises inside and out, and was starting to leak. Not to mention the clunk came back, so I knew it was time for her to go. Traded her in for $3000 and the money went towards purchasing E92: Added 1989 E30 vert white/beige/5MT. Saw it on side of the road, decided to see what the hype was about. Had it for a year or 2, maybe drove it 10 times total. Was getting valve tick. By the time I sold it, I had already bought my E92, so I knew my time, effort and money was going to go into that instead. 2008 E92 M3 Sparkling Graphite/Bamboo Beige/6MT/Lots of mods (Current). Was my dream car as soon as I saw the online unveiling. Decided life was too short, so treated myself to it. Found the car in LA, so had to have it shipped cross country, bought it sight unseen. She's been an absolute peach, I'm the second owner. This car is NEVER going to leave my sight 1999 E36 M3 Coupe Techno Violet/Dove/5MT/ a few mods, lots of maintenance (Current). This car popped up locally and I had to jump on it. Pretty much all the maintenance was already done, and the car was mint. Did I mention it's Techno Violet? It is my humble belief that you will start seeing the price of these cars rise within the next couple of years. They are a hoot, and getting hard to find with all the maintenance done and in clean condition. Next chapter: Most likely an M2/6MT/Blue or yellow/Cloth. As you can see, never bought a new car before, yet alone had a car with a warranty. I'm very excited for it. This will be my E36 replacement. The F80 is also in the running, but right now I'm leaning towards the M2.
