TW Flex Graphene Coated F82 Experience

Was looking into the Graphene Coating hype to see what what's up with it. The main two that I was really looking at was the 303 and Turtle Wax Graphene. I ultimately decided on the TW Graphene since that one seemed more DIY friendly in case you messed up. The 303 one requires it to haze and turns your micro fiber stuff black. The TW one doesn't and it has a pleasent scent.

One of the attirbutes that really peaked my interest was the "Anti-Static" which is supposed to reduce dust from sticking; I wasn't really into the hydrophobics or how long it lasts. I was really looking to do this for my wheels since our stock brake dust is attrocious. I bought the extended maintenance plan that covered stock brakes so I will be stuck on these pads until the maintenance plan ends - after that I will be switching to Akebonos. In the mean time I was looking to see what I can do to keep my wheels clean than washing them after every third stop sign.

I was contemplating ceramic coating my wheels but I've read online that it gets mixed reviews. It makes it easier to clean but sonax just eliminates most if not all brake dust. I am trying to maximize the amount of time between wheel washes, not the ease of cleaning.

I deep cleaned my wheels with Sonax and even manually took a microfiber towel to wipe the barrel down to ensure that my wheel barrel brush didn't miss any spot. My car's body is generally clean and I only clay barred my hood, roof, and trunk lid, and then wiped it down with 70% Alcohol.

The application was fairly easy, just 2 sprays on the panel and then wipe, buff off. It is VERY easy to spray too much and be mindful of how much you are spraying. You will get streaking and some haze if you apply too much. If this happens to you, the fix is to get a wet microfiber towel and just wipe it off.

I did read that 2 applications is optimal so I applied 2 layers on the body and for the wheels I applied 3 layers for good measure.

The car body doesn't seem any glossier or anything like that to the naked eye. My car is protected in LLumar Platinum PPF so that itself already has a hydrophobic coating and is already glossy as is.

I take care of my car pretty well so I wouldn't expect much different. This is how my car usually looks.

So far the anti-static claim is looking pretty good so far because after washing my car, there is usually rust on the rotor due to the water and after I drive off and use the brakes, there is some reddish dust from the rotors. This time, the reddish dust didn't stick and the barrel is still nice and black.

Usually after a week, my front wheels are all brown. So I am curious to see how long this last.

Thanks for the review. I was also looking into tw graphene. I get static in the rear of my car at the trunk and rear bumper. Lots of dust always collects there.

Saw the Scott HD long term review, seems like the TW Flex Wax is lasting longer than the 303. Seems like I made a good choice.

Three Times since feb, I lightly mist it as a topper when the car is wet.

So after 1 week of driving, the dust on the body on the car is less in vertical facing areas. Horizontal areas still dust just as bad in certain areas, the worst part is around the trunk opening. My black roof doesn't have a brown layer to it yet. So the less dust is partially true (to an extent).

It doesn't seem to work too well on wheels. Already browned after 1 week, so the dust resistance isn't for brake dust.



Haven't test hydrophobics yet but I am pretty sure, it's going to be about the same as any other wax.

These coating products won't cut down on the production of the brake dust (obviously), so the amount of brake dust won't really change. Where these products are supposed to help is when you clean them. Will the dust easily rinse off or will it require much scrubbing, etc.

Been about 3 weeks. Hydrophobics seem to be working fine.



Doesn't seem to do anything in terms of making brake dust stick less. Seems like there's nothing left on the wheel. Didn't make it easier to clean either. Still had to scrub.

So this is my final update for TW Graphene... in the recent months LA has been experiencing a lot of rain. Like week after week. So I've been washing my car on occasion more often. I've had unlucky encounters where I washed my car...and then it will rain down the week (like 3-4 days later). For the very first initial rainy day, the graphene coating held up. However by the third day..all of it has been washed off. I thought maybe I didn't apply enough. Washed and waxed it..the next rain storm by the third day of random rain..again started to sheet.

In the past I haven't encountered enough rain continuously so it seemed like it held up well because in between washes it would still bead up and I would top it off by spraying it when the car is wet. So with this rain we've been getting in LA, it's showing to me that the Graphene coating doesn't do well in real world applications with rain water.

TLDR -- TW Graphene doesn't last long in real world applications with continuous rain.
