Door handle malfunction - anyone else?

So my driver's side door handle detached from the opening mechanism. Courtesy locking still works but I have to stroll over to the passenger side and reach through the interior to open the door. Or leave the window down and open the door. Or go full NASCAR style.

Anyone else had this. A bit annoying. Had the car less than a year and I don't abuse it, however the door handle should be able to handle being pulled on. HA! Dealer will undoubtedly fix, but I am slightly concerned that when they put the door back together, there is the opportunity for rattles.

No big deal though and still absolutely loving the car. A year later and still playing with the optimal launch from standstill. Thing loves to spin the tires.

door handle carrier... common problem on other BMWs. i guess this is no different....

Should be covered under warranty. I bet the heat in phoenix made the mehanism either melt or stretch out

There is apparently some type of service bulletin on this. My SA had never heard of this before, but told me that when he looked it up, he came across the bulletin. Nothing is broken, it's a misadjustment during installation. They fixed it quickly.

Reviving an old thread, as I just experienced this (I believe) this morning. Was at the gym at 3:30am (don't ask) and go to shut my driver's door after getting out when I heard a loud clunk and the door didn't shut. Thought my seat belt might have gotten in the way, but it wasn't. The damn door latch was stuck down preventing it from latching. There I am in the dark trying to figure this out. Wouldn't budge. Finally, I played around with the exterior door handle it self, and that must have done the trick.

Is there SIB on this issue?

Reviving your revived thread.

This happened to me today. When I open the door the latch sometimes falls down into the "locked" position so I have to pull the handle and press the latch back up when shutting the door. Luckily the locks and handles work...

Did you get this resolved? I'm thinking it may be a quick fix if the locking mechanism works - may just be a broken latch?

I think I discovered the problem, which is the way I grab the interior door handle as I get out of the car. If I'm too much in a rush opening the interior door handle, it feels like the latch isn't as fluid (if that makes sense). So if it happens again (and the latch is stuck, door won't close), grab the interior door handle with the door open as if you were trying to open the door more consciously.

Got it. So you're saying just be deliberate when opening the door? I've never had issues until today (only two months of ownership but 100 times at least opening the door).
