NBT Evo ID6 -- used head unit for sale?

I have an NBT Evo ID4 but I do not want to flash it to update to ID6 because of the various complications that arise from time to time (due to lack of RAM). I would prefer to buy a used ID6 head unit. Apart from ebay, any ideas where I could pick one up? Thanks!

Smart choice, besides the benefits of the unit not crashing due to small memory, the ID6 native HW 4.1 will give you features not currently available in your current car such as remote location and gas level, among others. If in USA, make sure you are buying USA, not ECE version which you will find many attempting to sale. It’s on the front label. The ECE units have the Satellite DAB chips in them for the system used outside North America, not the SiriusXM chips used in USA and Canada as well as the HDRadio chip. You might think you do not care about either, but no reason to pay good money for an upgrade only to find out later you might have wanted it. Do not go by label on top as that is the standard label Worldwide that has all those logos on them.

Just updating everyone on this. Check out Straight Six Auto Parts, a certified California BMW dismantler, on eBay. They have used ID6 head units (among countless other BMW parts) for sale at relatively inexpensive prices.

I recently bought a whole ID6 set (head unit, touchscreen display and controller) from Straight Six and they work flawlessly (after coding by kubax86 ). I worked with a guy there named Hunter who is very knowledgeable and responsive. Let me know if you have any questions.

Not at all. Straight Six sold me the complete set of used components (head unit, 8.8" non-touch display, iDrive controller and iDrive controller module) for $1,100 out the door, shipping included. These parts were out of a 2018 F32 430i xDrive but obviously worked fine in my 2016 F83 M4 (once they had been coded).

I later sent back the non-touch display to trade it for the touchscreen version, and they charged me $200 for that upgrade (but kindly covered shipping both ways). The touchscreen display came out of a 2020 F87 M2, and worked fine right after I installed it (though I needed a brief coding session to turn on the touch feature).

So, the grand total was $1,300 for known-good used iDrive components. An awesome deal, if you ask me, which is why I thought I should bring Straight Six to everyone's attention on here.

There is no iDrive controller module that you would need in your 2016 M4.

iDrive controller is a little different (layout), but true, TBX can stay the same (Touch Box module)

The module came with the set but I left the existing one installed (I couldn’t find where it lives, haha) and it worked fine.

The iDrive controller you had you have worked fine as well with a simple change of 1 line of code.

And depending on which touchscreen they sent you, you may come to regret that as well.

Bottom line you could have obtained a HW 4.1 EVO (you did get a HW 4.1, right?) for $750-$800 and the better touchscreen for less than $1050-$1100 which is several hundred less than you spent.

Well, I got the final version of the 8.8” touchscreen and I preferred getting the newer controller with the correct button labels. Maybe I could have cut corners and done it more cheaply but I opted for getting excellent condition used OEM parts from a known good seller of BMW parts. I just wanted to bring this to everyone’s attention in case someone were interested in the same retrofit. Horses for courses, I guess.

You could have gotten a used controller $150 or less.

Still has you paying too much. Not so much of a great deal and unknown which actual parts you purchased.

Well, I’m happy with my purchase. Thanks for your input, though.

2.3 (with 4GB RAM from G series), 3.1, 3.2, 4.1, 5.1, 5.2. doesn't matter - same for end user experience.

With the old controller, I believe some of the buttons are labeled differently. For instance RADIO (old) vs. COM (new) and TEL (old) vs MAP (new). Keeping the old controller in place, does RADIO still get you to the radio screen or does it do what COM is supposed to do?

Have you had to take your car into the dealership for anything and did you run into any issues?

I like the route you went and am seriously considering it. So, 9 months in, are you still happy with your upgrade and would you recommend it, including purchasing from the same dismantler and coding from Kubax86?

I installed the new controller, so I am not sure how the old ID4 controller would work with an ID5/6 head unit. I did not replace the touchpad module because I understand them to be identical between the ID4 and newer head units.

I definitely recommend going the route I took and buying the parts from Straight Six Auto Parts (the BMW dismantler) and getting everything coded by kubax86. I have had absolutely no problems after all this time. Good luck!
