Question for the ethanol guys!
As a person just getting in to running ethanol on their car, I have heard about the need for an additional in-line filter. But I hadn’t heard about this before…
My first question is, how many of you guys are running that additional filter? How are the particles getting past the in tank fuel filter, that this additional filter is capturing? I know Bend Calibration offers a kit. Does anyone else offer one? Any feedback on those? Thanks!

e will dissolve and break down any gunk in the tank. without a filter that will clog your injectors and maybe lead to a kaboom. I am installing the bend kit. there is not much of a filter in the tank.

Two of the Vancouver M2 Club have had their injectors go out running ethanol for about 2 years. They are the OG model so definitely not a HPFP "breakage" issue. Likely dirt.
I ran E60 for about 10k mi without it and have been running the filter for about 10k mi. Nothing but Shell 93 its whole life prior to E60. I'll take a pic of the filter gauge soon to see if it needs swapping out. I read some guy had his filter fill up in the first 5k mi so it's good to check every oil change. I'm guessing he started running ethanol after installing the filter. Last edited by n8dgr84; 08-01-2024 at 05:17 PM.. |

astris have you cleaned yours since installing it? We have pretty much 1:1 setups with hardware and also running a Bend tune. |

I use the bend kit as well which uses the ID F750 filter, which per their site is designed to hold a high level of contaminant while maintaining low restriction to flow. This is accomplished with a highly efficient filter element, designed with low pressure drop in mind. At a flow rate of 750 liters per hour, the ID F750 will hold five grams of contaminant, the equivalent of approximately one teaspoon before requiring replacement. Higher flow rates are possible, but will require more frequent filter changes, depending on the cleanliness of your fuel system.
Seen above is the Delta P is short for delta pressure, which is the difference in pressure between two points. In this case, those two points are the inlet and outlet of the filter. The Delta P indicator gives a visual indication of the condition of the serviceable filter element, so that it can be replaced before it becomes a problem. The actual bend unit below which has the same Delta P indicator seen below. |

The car isn’t my daily, but I run at least some percentage of E85 nearly all the time. Would rather be safe than sorry.

I told my isntalling technician to code them but he refused stating that f80s don’t need the injectors to be coded even if I am installing eu5s. My car is running fine but would you know if there are any serious consequences of not coding and if it is definitely required ? |

Would you know if the injector values can be read without removing the injectors ? |

There's another thread somewhere in this forum that talked about this. I too thought for sure they needed to be coded because they do on n54 and n55, but that thread ended up concluding that the s55 DME just needs a particular adaptation reset, and it automatically learns in the injectors while running. I don't have the thread handy, but if you search it's in here somewhere.

I read that aswell and it’s the same thing that my mechanic said. He reset the adaptations and the car is running much smoother than prior to the reset. But many people also say that coding is a necessity for eu5s, not sure if that thread was talking soley about eu6s. |
