The PS4S tires may be contributing. My PS4S (mounted on 20's) make a resonating road noise on some highway textures that my Conti's, winter tires, or Cup 2's don't.

I'm the one who returned his ZCP on on the 666m wheels recently (tempted to get it back and add sound insulation)
I think the main culprit of the noise is those huge wheels, the tyres are so thin, it's like riding on wooden wheels. It's purely road surface dependant. On smooth roads it's a quiet car but on the type of roads we have here I think the UK it gets loud from 30mph onwards. The two non comp cars on 19s I've tried haven't had anywhere near the same level of tyre roar. I'm going to try another ZCP soon and see if there's any difference to the one I had but I doubt it. BMW made a faux pas going with such a wheel. |

I tried another ZCP today. It was much the same with the tyre noise, maybe slightly better.
I do have sensitive ears but if you have no such problems then it would be tolerable. In some ways it makes the car more engaging when on a spirited drive. A bit annoying when I'm half asleep in the morning. Was there any suspension change in 2018 compared to the 2018 model? This 2018 model I tested today felt a bit less crashy and going over lane reflector lights didnt feel so harsh compared to the 2017 model. |

From the offset, these cars were never designed as a luxury car, therefore they do not have all the sound deadening materials added to them. They are performance sports cars, so to bring out more engine noise, they didn't come with sound deadening insulation beneath the hood. And with the wide tires, you will have noise. My M3 isn't as quiet as my E63 AMG nor my F85 X5M, and I have to face that fact. But there are options, if your willing to take your car apart and insulate the floor, doors, trunk, hood from sound.

Agree with the comments on 763m. I don’t find the road noise as bad as being described here. Of course it’s louder than my other car but I notice way more road noise when I’m in a rental car (eg most recently the Genesis which was so loud)

I recently went on vacation and got a rental Dodge Challenger R/T with 20” Sumimoto Tires and I usually do not recommend anything made by Stellantis, but for some odd reason the Challenger is a lot quieter with less creaks and rattles, obviously the interior is filled with lots of cheap plastic but it doesn’t creak or rattle like my M4 does. The wind and road noise is significantly less and with the 20s on cheap Sumimoto tires it’s just oddly more comfortable than my M4. It also has almost the same mileage as my M4!!
Brakes and handling is not as flat as it handles like a boat and it lacks initial bite, much less than Akibono pads. The Sumimoto tires lack grip and fish tails very easily without trying so that is something I would never put on the M4 lol. The V8 is very satisfying to drive and the deep rumble is nice, but unnecessarily loud when trying to drive slow. I drove the thing from Miami to Orlando and the gas needle just keeps moving LOL but it was really comfortable. It really makes me question the build of the M4 if a cheap Dodge Challenger has better NVH. The seats, although cloth, is more comfortable than the leather seats in the M4 and it hugs you tighter. I can really see why people question the road and wind noise of the M4 now. |

All the comments are like it’s an ///M, not a 7 series. I get that but my E90 M3 wasn’t like that (window creaks only) and neither is my friends E46 M3. I am NOT asking for 7 series level of quiet. Just don’t think this car should have this level of road/cabin noise when my E90 M3 literally did NOT. Both E90 and F80 have the infamous window creak, but that can be fixed with tape and rubber lubricant.

These are meant to be do it all cars, good for spirited drives and for daily driving around town and on motorways/highways. It's a 5 door sedan after all but this car does fail as a daily driver due to the tyre roar.
Continental Europe is known to have good quality smooth roads so it's not an issue there, only here in the UK with lots of rough textured roads and from the sound of it it's the same case in America. Last edited by Reckless_2k; 08-10-2024 at 08:22 PM.. |
