44k miles on my 2015 and had stage 1 BM3 flash for 5k miles not a single issue. BluesCluesM3 is pushing 600+ on a 2015 with 70k+ miles with no SCH.

Of the current poll results 10% (27) have SCH. Majority appear to be modded with a large subset of those being DCT.
10% is higher than I would have expected.

If you just look at "stock" cars though, regardless of transmission or year, there are 123 cars total and only 4 incidents of a SCH (at the time of this writing). This works out to closer to 3% and is probably higher than reality as there are a limited number of actual owners on the forum.

Has there ever been a satisfactory answer as to why the SCH should correlate with horsepower? It seems to defy my first pass reasoning on the issue... maybe someone can link a thread/explanation.

Perhaps those with mods drive the car in a more harsh manner. Harder and more frequent use of full throttle. More hard DCT downshifts under full power. More speed manual up shifts....

Thank you for everyone's efforts in this thread.
Is there any mileage component relative to this issue? For instance, are we seeing higher mileage cars (say 40k+ miles) developing a SCH? I'm just wondering if there's a point where if the car hasn't shown this problem, we can breathe a bit easier? I doubt it but just thought I'd ask, thanks! |

However, I wonder if the Gintani solution works since it is a one piece design. Although it's not clear to me if the pulley/hub unit is pinned to the crank. Any know? Has the Gintani solution failed and resulted in a SCH? |

talked to several professional bmw m4 race teams in the GT 4 racing series...they have no type of crank bolt capture set up........cars are stock except for downpipe, stock boost , timing etc...suspension, chassis, aero mods, and break upgrades are more extensive

Damn !!!! for even stock, just sad. For as many voted that they have had issues its beyond just a few to the point one wouldn't care. Very sad to see this continue to happen for so my years after. Waiting to see the first 19 owners have issues. Just to long of an issue to continue like that.

For reference, there have been hundreds of stock power level Performance Center M3/M4 cars that are able to withstand the abuse without any SCH issues, at least none that majority of us would know about. |

We can speculate all we want but there is not enough data to find a pattern except that professional or semi-professional track drivers without a crank bolt capture are not faced with the same issue. Maybe it is just those that drive the car constantly like they have stolen it, I get it: the car was modded, lowered, ... and people want to show off and then floor the gas pedal or shift like crazy. There has to be a pattern because I cannot believe that this is randomly happening.
