I agree, it’s hilarious because big fish (or fish who think they’re big) never like to be told that there’s a bigger fish

New M2 pics - looks like the leaked bumper is legit. If I was ever to foray into a G-Chassis M car, it would be the M2. I'm okay with the design I guess, it's in no way a good looking car, but it's not vomit-on-your-shirt ugly.

Is anyone else seeing R35 GTR in those sides and rear quarter panels?

That yellow F30/ gender confused car is rocking serious moose knuckle. Like when you pull your pants up past the point of safe return. It really isn't something you want to take imagery of...

How sad that this is how we have to view BMW now and that this is the best we can say. When I got my E36 (my first BMW) I would have never thought I'd feel this way.

BMW had more inventory than other luxury brands before the supply chain issues. BMW dealers really didn't start having real inventory problems until nearing end of 3rd quarter. I predicted 4th quarter would be in the negative and I was right.

They 100% will not beat 2021 sales in 2022. Supply chain issues to start the year and will continue at least for another 6+ months minimum.

Well that explains the bumper not fitting the headlights currently on the base models. This render has a vent below the inner portion of the headlights. No way BMW bean counters would make M2-only headlights.

Thissss. A lot of brand new cars have become not-so-easy on the eyes and BMW, in some cases, is at the top. Have to nowadays buy the M Sport package to get less ugly bumpers, a dark colour to hide some elements, etc., quite the contrast to just a decade ago when base specs looked presentable and... just nice.

Coincidentally, saw a clean Alpine White E91 LCI with the M pkg; a carbon copy of my old one and I couldn't keep my eyes off it. And yet, I kept walking around the G21 loaner I had, trying to find angles in which it looked equally well to no avail. Progress, I guess. And they want more for one than what the F80 M3 cost in 2018!

I don't know. You guys are remembering the past through rose-colored glasses. I remember a lot of historical BMWs with ugly design (e.g., first and second generation X3, first generation 1 Series), black body cladding, hard plastic interiors, etc. Admittedly a lot of this was happening in the 2000s; the 2010s were a decent decade for BMW design.

I have to say, the G80 M3 is growing on me and, for those of us who want a smaller car, the G87 M2 actually looks good in my eyes...

P.s. apologies if my positivity is triggering for any of you.

The F25?!

Of all the ugly BMWs you could've chosen, you think those three - and especially the F25 - are ugly?

Why didn't you just mention the E46 Compact or the E65/66 7er... I can't think of any worse 2000s BMW designs. I'd have almost agreed with you. Almost.

Like, bro:

And knowing you're American and did not think of the E46 Compact as one of the ugliest cars to ever leave the modern-day European continent, I assume that by the first-gen 1 Series, you meant the E82/88 - to which I take great offence, as someone's who's had an E82 for many years. Deffo NOT ugly.

Also very much not ugly:

Slightly unfortunate-looking in pre-LCI base guise, yes:

Also not ugly. Not the best but not offensive. C'mon.

I'd say that rather you're the one who should check if your glasses aren't beaver-tinted, mate. My pessimistic ass doesn't know what rose-coloured glasses are. Comment about trash interior plastics is true but irrelevant.

Honorary mention, the disgrace that is this awful three-cylinder, front-wheel drive MPV which, unfortunately, people seem to buy a lot:

So are we just agreeing that BMW has a long history of horrible design misses? Therefore the G8x is nothing if not on-brand for them?

P.s. yes, in my opinion, the F25 and E82/E87 are not attractive. The G01 was a huge stylistic leap forward for the X3. And I am not saying a 1M Coupe is bad, but a base E82/E87 with those SURPRISED headlights is not a car I would drive.

I agree with your assessment. The earlier 1 Series wasn't particularly good looking (…especially in that hatchback guise), although I did purchase a 2011 135i for the g/f I had at the time. The first X3 wasn't particularly good looking either.

I’m honestly only think the 1 series looks good in 1m guise - it really needs those fenders and revised M fascia. I think the G87 M2 will follow the path of acceptance as the 1M… not the prettiest but we all got used to it and can look back and like it, even love it. Can’t say the same about the kidney-lung suite of cars, I really don’t think time will be kind to them.

Fingers crossed we see 36XX on standard brakes. I feel that marketing carbon ceramics as some sort of dedicated/special weight reduction is pulling-a-fast-one on the consumer base… cough cough M5CS. I don’t expect it’ll be as light as our F8Xs tho

I did really like the 1M. The wacky headlights worked in ///M guise.

BMW's own published numbers:

* German sales collapsing, both per year & per quarter (75% the size of the US market)
* Europe sales: barely growing, and reversed the 4th quarter
* Chinese sales: crushed the 4th quarter
* US sales, also negative the 4th quarter (all markets down Q42021)
One has to wonder:

ok, so in all markets BMW whiffed it in Q4 ... and when were the pigs let out of the barn? Oh yeah, over the summer ... so like Q2/Q3, right? and now Q4 sucks. Huh.

And BMW's home market is a whiff for the entire year?? A place probably most rife with BMW news & photos ... hmmmm ...

Yeah, except I've seen zero data to support this supposition including nobody I've heard of having trouble buying BMWs in Q4 including me and NickyC

Do you have any actual data showing people who wanted a BMW in Q4 but couldn't get one?

Further I'd mention every dealer I spoke with in Q3/4 (~50 dealers country wide) all told me they've never sold more BMWs and for higher prices.

And then how would that explain Germany's FULL YEAR sales collapse? Which is a market nearly the size of the US market ... and requires no shipping for non-X models?

And then China's sales collapse despite having a Chinese factory?

They can be a nuisance on a tight course with a very good driver and setup.

Perfect balance in a small package.
