Anyone running BMW Star Cup2 connects (G80 version) on the F80 with 763M wheels?
Any issues with slightly wider front (275 vs 265)? Seems there should be no issues given that this version of the 275 tire isn’t as wide as usual. Especially curious about HPDE/track experience, but also on the street. Last edited by Keca10; 03-07-2023 at 06:54 PM.. |

- Fronts fit fine (very square, no bulge), do not run spacers or you'll rub - Definitely a compromise/do-it-all tire with DE days in mind, arrive & drive - There are better dedicated street tires and dedicated track tires - Great grip on track but after the first 10-15 heat cycles they become seat time tires - They do not like hot pressures over 36 psi, I target 34 hot I won't be running them again as I have multiple wheel sets and am running 285 square now. I'll eventually throw on G80 PS4S for wet track days. For the occasional track day they're great but they do heat cycle out and long street trips is a big contributor to that. Perfect for like "5 events a year with street use in between" kind of situation. https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...9&postcount=75 https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...2&postcount=78 https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...8&postcount=79 https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...8&postcount=80 https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...4&postcount=82 https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...0&postcount=85

The Connect version seems really similar based on what you described. I also quickly figured on the track they are unstable and greasy if I let the pressure get too high during a session (38+). I keep ‘em at 34-36 psi they seem quite happy then. I am hoping the Connects really do last a little longer. |

Do these Cup 2 Connects have enough tread
Since you guys use Cup 2, wanted to get your opinion. Do my tires (Cup 2 Connect) have enough tread left? Did 4 track days in novice solo groups (often getting stuck behind slow traffic). So about 15-16 heat cycles if you count the slow run groups. Its on a G82 6MT. Only probably 2000 street miles on them or less. Are they good for one more? How do you guys tell when they are worn out - just by the wear bars?

My spec Tire: CUP2 * (Connect, GTS) Camber: -3.0F, -2.0R Tow: 0F, 0R Longevity: 6 track days, ±25sessions, ±15k street miles Here's my tire wear out back. I think I torched them by being over-inflated for a session. Fronts are 50%, even wear.

Thanks for the quick reply. I do actually have -3.0 camber on the front with vorshlag plates, will get it checked to make sure it still is that. Toe is 0.12, will try to get less. And wow your wear pattern is crazy, cords in the middle with a ton of tread on the sides. What should I look for on my tires in terms of more wear? Just keep going until I see cords? I drive on these tires to the track, so want to be have enough tread to make it back as well. I do bring 1 spare wheel+tire.

I'm on regular connect cup 2s , I got them slightly used for a decent price but don't think I will be buying them new. Don't think they have the value of say RS4. |

But honestly I think heat cycles matter more here - you’ve def got at least a day in terms of rubber left, but it’s unlikely to be your fastest day as the Cup2s are probably past their grippiest heat cycles.

Thinking I should send the 275 back and get the 265 which is listed as wider than the the 275 on tire rack. Appears there is no logic to the size between the regular cup 2, the * spec, and the other variants. |

Sizes/widths are dictated by the car manufacturer that the tire is being developed for. BMW widths are usually narrower than the same tire width from another manufacturer because BMW wants the tire better supported by the wheel width. A narrower tire on a wider wheel outperforms a wider tire on a narrower wheel. Stuffing the widest tire on a narrow wheel not only affects the contact patch, it also affects the tire’s breakaway characteristics at high slip angles. This typically results in a tire that abruptly snaps rather than a more progressive breakaway characteristic. I’ve learned this first hand as well as from GRM comparisons, car magazine comparisons as well as online comparison articles and YouTube videos. |

What pressures would you guys run on the GTS cup2 front and rear? Road driving only no track work…

I run 2.2bar f/r on the oem cup2* 763m
On track tire temp 80 degrees Celsius, pressure went up to 2.6bar. I like them very much, very predictable grip levels, more predictable than PS4. Less snappy. In the wet less grip than PS4 off course, but also very predictable. And high speeds runs on the autobahn with cup2 (dry) there is much more stability. With PS4 the car is floating on high very speeds. (240-300kmh range) |

Hey bimmer pros, I’m preparing my F83 ZCP for my first HPDE day. My rear tires are due for renewal, I’m thinking GoodYear Eagle F1 Supercar 3 size 295/30ZR20 101(Y) XL eXtra Load (Because the GY 285/30ZR20 are only 94(Y) SL - Standard Load).
What do you think? Apart from being 1cm wider thread, the tire is about 1% similar to OEM Michelin 285/30/ZR20 XL. Will there be any rubbing with those GY 295? |
