Cleaned up and ready to test start tonight.
Welded and painted the pinch weld. Not pretty but didn't want to put too much heat into it. Could only do about 2 spot welds at a time before the paint started smoking. Quick hit with the die grinder to flatten it out some and just used some seam sealer I had at home because I could apply with my finger. Probably took more material off than I needed to but each test fit requires the engine to be lifted to fit the pipes in. Wrapped the rest of the intake in gold foil too. The big elbow runs close to the manifold so it needs it but had extra so wrapped the front part too. Probably doesn't need it but I like the look. Oil and filter have been changed, coolant filled and bled, downpipe installed.with o2s, just need to install the intake and will attempt to fire it up tonight. picture share Last edited by b_w.; 03-22-2024 at 09:02 AM.. |

Ran into a hick up on the intake when I started installing the front shrouds. the way Mike designed the intake he cuts into the hood latch box compared to how I trimmed the pinch weld. When I went to put the filter on the shroud interferes by about a half inch. I had to get another 45 degree silicon elbow and 45 degree aluminum elbow to raise it up. Luckily it clears but the filter is now in the centre of the grill instead of the passenger side kidney. Not ideal but should work just fine.
d 10 die I also butchered the shroud trying to fit the intake through. Thinking of using some black expanding foam and some aluminum sheet to seal it back up and block the air. Was thinking of this stuff but open to other suggestions https://www.homedepot.ca/product/gre...B&gclsrc=aw.ds |

Next set of tires showed up. Hoosiers will replace the NT01s when they are done. Continental's will go on my 18x11 VS-5RS's when they are back from powder coat. Couldn't get the satin bronze matches so getting them done in champagne gold , going for the frozen gold look. The continental's are wide compared to the nitto's and the Hoosiers are wider. Hope they fit! Will run the conts on the street and wet track days. Ran them most of last season and really liked them.

Car is on the road now and driving pretty well. Picked it up from alignment a few days ago and have been trying to log some pulls for my first tune revision. Pulls hard, sounds amazing and is very responsive. I doubt videos will do it any justice but with the mpe muffler it sounds very exotic. Down shifts are intoxicating.
Working on finishing a few things up such as the new skid plate, fender trimming / molding, have to install the bimmerworld rear studs and get some new crimps on the charge pipes. Hope to get a revision tomorrow and then maybe the first track day on the 20th. I don't like driving fast on the street so should be able to get some good data. |

Fall line skid plate installed . This is a nicer unit than the turner and for the price it should be. If you are running a larger sized aftermarket oil cooler this has way more room. It bolts over top of the stock plastic guard, which needs to be trimmed, vs the turner which needed a lot of work. It adds a second pair of chassis mounts, larger screws and overall is much more solid. As a bonus if it ever needs to be repaired stainless is easier to weld than aluminum.

Spending some more time getting logs and driving around. Working through the tune revisions and everything is coming along nicely.
Aside from the sounds which make the s55 sound completely different I really like the way the single turbo drives. I asked for a linear GTS + like tune just with more peak power. It is way easier to maintain traction compared to a tuned stock turbo car. the power comes on fast but it is smooth compared to the gut punch of mid range torque from the factory and pulls like crazy to redline. Right now max boost is at 26 psi and my logs show a target at peak of 550 lb ft. and it feels really good. I have been playing around with the water injection trying to find the right starting points so it doesnt bog down the motor. trial and error process. Hope to get one more tune revision and the blessing to hit the track this weekend. Cant wait to see how it feels. |
