Requesting assistance with Apple Car Play

Earlier this year, I purchased a 2017 M3, and since then I've updated the current iDrive to the 2023/2024 Navigation Maps. I also upgraded the iDrive to Full Screen Apple Car Play, and upgraded the current iDrive 5 to iDrive 6. So, my question is how do I migrate some of the apps on my iPhone 12 over to Car Play, such as YouTube, Weather Radar Maps, and others? I think that there are certain Apps, that are/aren't allowed to transfer over. Is there something in Apple Car Play or the iPhone, that I must switch on to allow this.

Someone, please educate me on this! So far, I've managed to only transfer one App. The others Apps are being elusive. Thank you for your assistance.

I'm in for an education on this as well. Upgrading to the current iDrive is on my list of mods to have done, but I'm not sure I want to do it if Car Play functionality is still limited / glitchy.

I purchased the software for my iDrive thru Bimmer Remote Coding, very cheap compared the Bimmer-Tech. It required an ENET Cable and Ethernet to USB-C adapter to connect to my laptop. The actual install was simple, after they guided me thru it for the first time. I do have apps on car play already, I'm just trying to transfer more over to it from my iPhone. I just don't know how, or maybe it just the app itself. Just looking for some advice, on how to do it. Other than that, I have no other issues as full screen car play works as advertised, the map updates works, and the same for iDrive 6, which I like so much better than iDrive 5. Just getting use to navigating it, compared to iDrive 5, which I was very familiar with in my F85 X5M. So, if you're on the fence about it, just pull the trigger and upgrade. I have no regrets and glad that I did it. As far my F85, it requires a brand new MMI box to upgrade that system, roughly $800 plus install. Just looking for some advice here, anyone....anyone

Some apps like YouTube, Netflix etc cannot be transferred using CarPlay (at least OEM way)

Do you have any advice on the standard procedure of how one should go about transferring some apps from iPhone? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Go to settings on your iPhone,then general,then CarPlay click on your car then customise.This takes you to a list of apps that are available to use in CarPlay.

Yes, thank you for that. But, I've already been there, and all the transferable apps do not appear.
I thought that all my eligible/transferable apps would reside there, but they don't. So, I'm back to square one again.
I'm know browsing thru the official apple car play website looking for information.

This is Apple's official language.

Arrange your CarPlay Apps
While using CarPlay, the display in your car will show your available apps. To add, remove, or arrange the order of the apps on your iPhone:

Go to Settings > General, then tap CarPlay.

Select your car. Then tap Customize.

Tap the Add button + or Delete - to add and remove apps. Tap and drag an app to change the order the apps appear in.

The next time you connect your iPhone to CarPlay, the new order of your apps should appear on the display. Only apps that are supported by CarPlay will appear on your display.

This would have been good to know, a long time ago.

Remember that only certain apps are compatible with CarPlay, so not all apps installed on your iPhone will appear there. Enjoy your customized CarPlay experience! 🚗📱

If my memory serves, BMW installed Apple Car Play in the F80 M3 in 2017, so you should have it in your vehicle. I had it in my 2017, but it's wasn't full screen, only half screen. But getting it for free, I'm not sure. I purchased my full screen version from Bimmer Remote Coding for $39 then I went ahead an updated my maps to version 2024, then updated the iDrive software to version iDrive 6. So, if you can't find it for free, you now have a resource to go Bimmer Remote Coding.
