Noemon's F80 Build

Hey boys and gals!

Right, so my first M car was an F10 M5 back in 2016, it was a 2013 model that I loved. I bought the car as a Europe Grand Tourer and used it 3 times to drive to Greece and back(always taking a different route), after that I got bored of large cars and went for a brand new M135 which I kept for a few winter months as a daily but sold when summer came and needed something bigger to ferry the family to Greece again. Then I decided to get an RS4 as a proper motorway eater. Paid a deposit for a 2018, the car was at 48k GBP at the time. The day I was supposed to collect from Audi Huntingdon, they called to inform that the salesman crashed the car on a bollard inside their parking lot, I cancelled the order and went to test drive another F90 for the 5th or so time, the car was quite uncomfortable and heavy so decided to go take a look at a Grigio Telesto M3, both me and my wife instantly fell in love. The car was owned by a chav that was running Stage 2+ from Wrench, hence why I was avoiding this car but I managed to grab it at a price I could not refuse and factored in preventive maintenance costs in the equation so the day I bought it took it straight down at AReeve's and we did the following jobs:

Insane Crankhub

Upgraded Rod Bearings

New OEM Turbos and obviously new oil, filters, etcetera.

Tractive Touring Suspension.

I then used the car to criss-cross Europe several times a year with the family and added around 45k miles in 2.5 years.

Last year May, the car crossed the 80k miles mark and I was unsure what to do with it, I thought about selling and jumping into a G80 but the size put me off, so I garaged it and left it sitting for this past winter. I got a Mini JCW to run around as a daily. Come February the itch came back, I got me a set of Intrax 1k2 to reignite my relationship with it since I decided not to sell and to perhaps spend a bit of money on it.

The Intrax is sublime and that set my mood right to build a Clubsport version. So I then got Vorshlag camber plates, Team Schirmer Kinematics, Powerflex Bushes, Carbon Recaro Pole Positions & Schroth Harnesses, KMP Steering Wheel, Alcon BBK front and eventually an OEM M2 CS Racing Drexler diff that was mounted at A Reeve's just last week.

The Intrax 1k2 I ordered with ARC & stock spring rates 42 n/m front, 92n/m rear which make the car very comfortable at the middle and comfort settings and stiff as a boner at the hard setting as the ARC gets to work. The bushes tightened everything up and made the car feel like new again, the Kinematics give you incredible feedback without making the car crashy, the PP's and Schroth's keep you in place and the KMP Steering wheel just feels a lot better to drive with.

Exhaust mods: Akrapovic Downpipes, VRSF midpipe, Remus Back box.

Issues I 've had:

The Schroth Harnesses have a very particular fitment, they need to be at 0-20(minus) degrees angle from your shoulders, which meant that they can not be mounted to the floor or the rear seat buckles as both these locations exceed the -20 degree threshold by a lot. I thought, np I'll use a Harness Bar, I got me a Gosling Racing one but it did not solve the fitment issue because the harnesses are just not long enough and were pulled back significantly resulting in incorrect fitment leading to potential danger. We thought, np, we'll add some webbing, Schroth told us that this will destroy the ASM system and compromise safety. So having failed to mount the harnesses properly without a roll cage, I bit the bullet and ordered a Wiecher's Clubsport cage from Germany, the reason I went for that one is because it is TUV certified and as such insurance approved.

Jobs Remaining:

Wheels and Brakes. The Alcons do not clear 18's and that has made me wonder whether I should insist on my attempts to test fit and mount the 513's, which are a maybe. Or whether to sell the Alcon Kit and go for smaller AP racing rotors so I can run 18's without issue. Still pondering on that.

Cooling: M2 CS Racing Diff Cooling and Oil Cooler.

Retrim the Pole Positions with Leather and Suede.

Wrap: Want Java Green, but also considering Orange or even plain White with Livery. Ideas appreciated.

Splitter: Wardy M3 wooden splitter, plastic and carbon splitters break, not recommended.

Wing: Maybe.

Fiberglass doors and panels: Thinking about it, will discuss costs and see if worth it.

Nice work! Was surprised to read the alcons don't clear 18s because I have alcons with 18s but then I saw the pics...those are huge! Jealous of the diff.

Thank you mate.

Yeah man, these got the 400mm rotors but to be honest it's the calipers that's the issue.

I tried my 640m, they don't even get into the hub.

I sent the template to APEX, Rays and a couple more, but they all came back to me negative for 18's.

The diff is well worth it. Very happy with it.
