2018 M4 F83  [10.00]
Telematic Communication box.

Hi, hope someone can help me.
I have a F83 2018 M4.
The Sat nav won’t hold my location after setting and soon as I set off it jumps to a blank screen or water location.
Got a diagnostic from BMW they said they THINK it’s the telematic communication box.. if not the head unit but thinks the box. I was quoted £700 but I found aidentical one for sale (used) same code etc £70.
I rang bmw checking I can install this box in car. They said no it has to be from the original car and won’t code.
I just find it strange if that’s the case, why are many being sold without complaints.

Hope someone can help my problem please. Mark

You should pull any codes to help troubleshoot. If a generic code reader doesn't pull relevant codes you may need ISTA.

There's a hidden service menu that can test your GPS. I'm not sure how to get into it though.

I recall reading a similar thread on the F30 forum and the issue was the antenna on the roof.

It could also be a bad GPS antenna that connects to the back of the head unit.

You could use a mod replacement atm / kombi module. It can be coded to your current vin. Second part of the mod would be to desolder your current SIM card from current unit and put into new unit. That way your original SIM card which allows access to the mobile network bmw is using with your car is paired with your vin number.

Google search desolder bmw sim atm module and you should find some info on how it’s done.

But , if your Bluetooth Handsfree calling is working without issue then that would suggest the post above could be where the issue lies.
