F80 M3 - Any aftermarket screens work with the HUD?
Hi guys,
I use my in-car nav system when I plan my trips in advance by sending the address to the car with the BMW app. It's quite clunky and slow, especially when it takes a few minutes to arrive to the idrive. The reason for that is that I love the heads-up display showing me instructions on the road in front of me, showing me song names as I change them, etc. However, when I'm driving and I need to go somewhere on a whim, I end up asking my phone and following Google Maps on the phone screen, as the in-car interface is unusable for this scenario. Is there any aftermarket head unit/screen with Android Auto that is capable of communicating with the HUD to display navigation/music/etc. as the stock system does? 2015 M3 Thanks! |

Not possible unfortunately.
You have to use the native navigation if you want the navigation instructions to show on the HUD. Using Google Maps etc whether via Carplay, Android Auto or directly on an aftermarket screen doesn't support the HUD. |

Thanks, appreciate the response. In that case, there's no real benefit in spending 600 bucks + installation on an Android unit. My phone does the same job.

If you upgrade, I’d encourage you to get the touchscreen not for the touch option ( I never use it) but because it’s so much brighter and vibrant than the standard screen. Super easy installation too so you can save some money DIY’ing. |
