Angry Late RIS

Hi all,
Just after some advice, story as follows…
I bought my 2020 M4 comp in October 2021, I now want an M5,
Asked for a part ex at BMW and they said the running in service was done late so they can’t sell the car as approved used.
At the time of being told that it didn’t click, however I bought the car ‘approved used’ back in 2021, either the guy at BMWs was lying to try and fob me off or the BMW dealership wrongfully sold me a car.
The RIS was done at 2,489 miles which my understanding is that it’s 2000 miles latest.
Do you think I should raise a complaint and have a point here that they may have overcharged me thinking it’s approved used when it wasn’t when I bought it?
Cheers

By all means raise hell about it. I know that I would. That dealership would get so sick and tired of seeing my face, that they would give me what I want just to get me the hell out of there.

Was it “approved used” or “CPO (certified pre-owned)”?

Approved used is not the same as BMW Certified Pre-Owned. CPO is when you get a limited BMW warranty. Approved Used does not include a limited BMW warranty unless you purchased an aftermarket warranty. A 24xx RIS should not affect a BMW CPO. Buying a used 2020 f82C in 2021 without it being a CPO’ed car says there was something wrong with this car that prevented the dealership from being able to CPO it. We’re talking about a 2020 used f82C in 2021 when used car prices were crazy high due to COVID. CPO’ed they’d be able to get considerably more money than a non-CPO’ed used car.

OP is in England. CPO may be a U.S. thing and approved used may be the rough equivalent there. Not sure but noticed "England" and that may mean a difference vs. U.S.

Good catch. It is Approved Used Cars in the UK.

I have got in contact with the manager at the dealership I originally bought the car from…he said he needs to ask the head of approved used car scheme if the running in service was approved during the COVID 19 grace…
I have done some reading up and the grace for RIS is 2000 miles during covid, this is also on bmw website, my RIS was done at 2489 miles…
What do you all think?

If you were sold an approved used car that cannot be resold back to a dealer for approved used then the supplying dealer has done you over im afraid,

Not only that, but of all the services, a late RIS is the one most likely to deter the majority of buyers.

Very interested to see how this pans out. Might be worth asking on M3cutters as there’s some very clued up folk on there.
