Interesting move to smaller turbines. I'm guessing part of it is to eliminate lag, but here's to hoping that more reliable boost can be extracted from it. The auto rev match 6MT is a tad gimmicky, but no doubt functional.

that's... very vague
the N54 also has mitsubishi turbos, two TD03's... judging by the size, the S55 will have twin TD04's (google TD03 vs TD04, it looks exactly the same) AND if it IS in fact a TD04, there's the chance of the similar-to-N54 hybrid turbo upgrades with TD05 internals, which means relatively cheap mods, and a tune (when it's worked out) to the same relative level as the N54, should easily get it into the 6xx whp range! (stock turbos, you'd expect what.. high 5xx at least with supporting mods?) AND, it'll breathe SIGNIFICANTLY higher in the rev range (though nothing too nuts of course).. and more than likely be very happy over 20psi. man this car is going to be AWESOME to see in the months after release Last edited by flinchy; 09-24-2013 at 10:34 PM.. |

US Curb weight is measured with the base car (without any cost options that would reduce weight) plus driver and cargo (165 lbs) and 16 gal fuel (6 lb/gal) That's the way most manufacturers quote weight on their web site including BMW. EU has 2 measurements: Unladen - car has all fluids, running gear, spare tire etc. 90% fuel tank and no driver or cargo. EU kerb - unladen plus 68kg driver and 7kg cargo (165 lbs) The other difference between US and Euro is that usually a base US car already has more options than a Euro base car so the weight will account for those options. An example would be if the M4 comes with an auto standard and manual as a no cost option then the weight will be quoted for the auto. BMW's quote of 3306 lbs is without driver/cargo with a euro spec. Hence the US weight will be at least 3471 lbs. However as i said the US number is usually a bit higher for standard equipment so US should be at least 3480 lbs (it might be in the low 35xx if DCT is included in the calculation). Those estimates line up well with BMW's claim that the M4 will be 80kg lighter than a similarly equipped e90. In the US, BMW quoted the e90 at 3704 lbs which is where everyone is getting the 3528 lb number. These are all estimates but it looks like it will come in somewhere between 3480 - 3540 pounds when using the same measurement that you currently see on BMW's web site for all their other US cars. Hope this was helpful Last edited by caneaddict; 09-24-2013 at 11:10 PM.. |

I think the stock boost on the 335i is something around 10psi which is where the turbos are most efficient(BMW stock setting), they have been tuned to output 19psi but they don't do that very efficiently and heat and stress can be an issue.
Therefore my feeling is that if the S55's turbos operate at 19psi most efficiently (BMW stock setting)then there is room for tuning to higher than stock pressure to that inefficient area of boost pressure. Said another way, I doubt BMW would make the S55 with turbos that are running inefficiently at factory/stock boost pressure. |

Thanks for info. Something to look forward too. I'm assuming this will eliminate the $1300 gas guzzler tax??

But many E92 owners have put their cars on scales and have gotten a little over 3,500 lbs. So if the M4 is indeed 176 lbs lighter, then 3,303 figure does sound about correct. |

Wow...
I can't believe people are still nitpicking. This car is going to be a beast and looks like it will deliver on the things that matter. Interested to see how well some of the tricks like auto blip and exhaust flap work in real life. With all the carbon fiber how much is this thing going to cost? I guess that's the next big announcement. |

Awesome, spec looks amazing. Sets a new benchmark, plus a new price band! Circa £60k for UK me thinks!

I was hoping for a little more torque thou, at least 400 ft lbs. Bearing in mind that torque was the main problem of the last M3, the just released Alpina B3 has 443 ft lbs, and its a given that the next C63 AMG will have well over 450 ft llbs.
