When I test drove an E90 type M3 with DCT 18 months ago, I recall the dealer explaining the power could be cut from something like 420bhp to 320bhp.
Does the new M3/M4 have the save feature and if so where is it set? I may have the lower power setting set to improve fuel economy when driving slowly in cities.

Real world MPG
Just curious what the highway MPG will look like with this new engine. My M5 actually gets better highway mpg than my old E90 M3's.
Not that one buys an M car for its economy, but I suspect that the new M3 will be pretty impressive in that regard. Any real world experiences with this yet. Probably a little early I know.

Gas Guzzler?
Just read the Car and Driver first drive article and they are estimating "EPA city/highway: 18-20/28-30 mpg." Last I heard we (U.S.) would not get hit with the guzzler tax. Any new info on this?

FWIW, not every car is tested - only 10% or so in a given year. The EPA relies on manufacturer estimates. So the rating you see on the window sticker is likely to be BMW's estimate. Now, they have every incentive to not exaggerate since lawsuits could ensue (and have before). So we can expect it to be close to what the EPA would find in their own testing (test procedures are public, naturally). That all being said, your actual real world mileage could vary greatly from that number anyway.

Some of these estimates are absurdly optimistic...
I got 19 mpg (U.S.) with my E92 M3 DCT, I'm getting 22 mpg in my 435i xDrive 8 AT - identical mixes and speed. It's hard for me to imagine an M4 doing better.

I'd find it hard to believe Ford could figure out a way to get out of the gas guzzler tax for the 662 hp 5.8 v8 gt500 and BMW couldn't in this turbo 3 liter.
I'd expect somewhere in between the old m3 and the current 335. So probably low 20s combined with around 30 hwy. |

Why? Displacement aside, it's a drastically different engine. 34 Euro mpg combined is 28 US mpg and I reckon it'll do it unless you drive like you should be on a track. Just look at Mercedes' latest 5.5 liter gets and compare that to their previous 5.5s (or 5.4Ls).

How could you imagine it not being much better? a 435 with AWD is going to eat some gas. I think 28 is totally reasonable based on UAE247's posts

Since the new M3 has about the same horsepower as the old M3, I would expect the fuel economy to be similar, if driven the same manner.
