Exhaust system database for the M3 and M4!
While we eagerly await the arrival of the new M3/M4, all of us at IND can’t help but stare at every single component that graces BMW’s press releases. As car enthusiasts, the sound and power of a sports car is always one of the car’s most dynamic qualities and many fans posting in the F80/82 section are already speculating about this car’s sound and performance.
To contribute to our collective day dreaming, IND would like to build an exhaust system database for the F80/F82 chassis cars, starting with the original BMW exhaust system. Here we will compile photos, specifications, video clips, and all other details related to the sound that an M3 or M4 can make. I’m certain that the future will bring us some great aftermarket and performance exhaust offerings from many manufacturers. These, and more information on the original BMW exhaust will fill the pages of BimmerPost as more exciting news about the M3/M4 develops! Original BMW exhaust system

I'm guessing Akra will be $7,400 for the system... unless they do valves, then more like $8,500.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

Hope there's a way to keep those valves closed during emissions testing

there have been plenty of videos posted of this car by now, many with the car under LOAD, which gives you a better idea of how the car will sound. Not too shabby. It isn't a V8, will never sound like one, but certainly will perform. People going from the e46 M3 to E9X M3's bitched about the weight of the S65 compared to the raspy fart can S54. Now BMW said, lets make this car lighter and more efficient, the return of the I6 slapped w/ two turbos, and now people are bitching about the noise the car makes. I mean even the S65 sounds like its missing a left nut with the stock exhaust. Reminds me of the fact that you can't please everybody. Just give it time, so far this car hasn't disappointed. Great thread by the way.

If they are doing piped in noise, then the exhaust is supposed to be quiet by design. I think this is an EU thing where they are really trying to nuke the loud exhausts. Obviously, it sucks to have to spend an extra chunk of change on an aftermarket exhaust (the pricing on some of these systems is absurd), especially when the S65 sounded so incredible out of the box. But rest assured, I believe the exhaust note emo can be cured with a couple grand.
I know it's a horrible apples to oranges comparison, but check out how Milltek improved the sound of the 3.0 S/C V6. The 3.0 V6 sounds *a lot* worse IMO than the 3.0 N55 I6 for comparisons sake, especially with respect to drone. Stock Milltek |
