With the base sound system you get the sound of weed wacker turbo six, with the HK option you get the sound of nice purring V8

Everything I have read thus far indicates that the engine noise is played back through the installed sound system and not through a seperate system.
Those that claim otherwise, could please state your source? Last edited by CanAutM3; 05-14-2014 at 04:55 PM.. |

So I was wrong...I might be thinking of another vehicle with a similar technology. Here is an excerpt from a post Jason made about the active sound:
"So, the bad news is yes, the M3/M4 does feature Active Sound. But, the good news is that we've confirmed with BMW Germany that it's a live amplification of the S55 engine's natural sounds. There is no artificially generated sound or pre-recorded track being played. This sound amplification takes place through the M3/M4/s stereo speakers. Those with thoughts of disabling the amplification may be disappointed to learn that since the sound is played through the audio system, past attempts by M5 and M135i owners to disable Active Sound required pulling the stereo system fuse or unplugging a Sound Symposer unit. While the Active Sound feature was disabled with both methods, so were the entire audio systems. See the video below by BIMMERPOST members for a sample of how the M5 and M135i sound with Active Sound disabled."

Does anyone have the video clip of the bmw sound engineer tuning the active sound with his laptop in a sound chamber? Please post it. It's priceless. I bet BMW tried to remove it. Incriminating. Lol

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I don't want any artificial engine noise inside my car and I hope this sound can be turned off.

There is only one ASD module, and only one functionality. The F80/82 uses the same ASD module and it performs the same duty as in the M5, the F30 and the F10. And I posted two ways of disabling the ASD module -one way that I did myself in my own car- so you posting old and inaccurate information still shows a lack of reading comprehension. I have all the OEM documentation of the ASD, and before you ask me to post it to "prove" my point, I rather tell you to pay $30 a day in here www.bmwtis.com the same way that I do before jumping in a forum and posting incorrect information. |

And another thing...reading comprehension would only be applicable if I had actually read the posts you referenced regarding the AS system, and misunderstood their meaning. Not having seen those posts, because the threads were merged and they were inserted above my previous posts in the original thread, means it doesn't apply here.

The thing is that you actually read what I posted, and still you came up with your own way of fitting your misinformation in here instead of researching a bit further. So either you did not understand or simply you just did not care what you read.
Which it is ok, regardless. The point is that you are not the only one reading this post, so the correct information is posted for those that do care about this feature. Moving on... Quote:
