F80 M3 or wait for F82 M4
Cheers,
Currently, I'm in my 3rd BMW. E92-> E90-> F30. I'm going to be moving to another town soon and settling down. The idea of taking the next step up towards an M3 has been haunting me excessively lately. I'm reviewing all the news about the upcoming F80. All what we know about it is limited. But what we know for sure, is that the F80 M3 is coming late 2013 and the F82 M4 is coming mid/late 2014. I don't know how do people who are looking at the new M3 feel about that or experienced the same issue before. Do you care if its a saloon or a coupe. Im kinda leaning towards waiting for the coupe but it sucks coz it's a lot of waiting + my wife is all over me with being against the coupe idea if we gonna have kids in the future (that was another question, how do M3 coupe owners deal with that). Thanks MR

you answered your own question... if you get a coupe, what are you going to tell your wife? some guy on a forum said i should get the coupe?
you've left out many variables such as buying or leasing, are you going to track it or is it for driving to work and grocery shopping... are you sharing it with your wife? i personally would rather make my wife happy, but would try selling the coupe as hard as i could first... good luck. p.s. i would go with the E92 M3 in 6MT |

Honestly I would look at something else.
Starting a family for me would be BMW X5, Acura MDX, or Porsche Cayenne. I wouldn't get a car if I was starting a family again. Been there done that.

I think the new M4 coupe is going to be something special. The current sedan vs coupe M3 both have similar proportions and appearances (to me at least) but based on the spy shots of the silver 335i coupe, I bet the M4 will be smaller than the sedan in the next gen. Here's what you do: 2011 E90 M3 now and F82 M4 in 2014-15. Do it and you won't believe how you almost missed out on the S65 V8. You only live once.

I sort of agree with this.
Happy husband also makes for happy life for the wife. In a marriage, BOTH the wife and husband need to be happy. Not just ONE. I know a guy thats wanted a Vette for about 6 yrs now. He got his wife a brand new caddy completely optioned to her liking, they paid it off and now wants a Vette. Well, now she wants another Caddy and they aren't getting his Vette. Then, he tells me, Happy wife = happy life" lmao Yeah right OP, if you're expecting children down the road, you may want to consider the sedan like S65NAPWR said OR, get the wife an X3\X5 (make her happy now)and then get the M4 coupe (make you happy later) when it comes out in a few yrs.

I would recommend not buying a first, or even second model year when the new M3/M4 comes out. Too much potential for kinks and gremlins for BMW to sort out. Let the model mature in its production cycle and finish going through "growing pains". lol
For example, the new F10 M5 has seen some issues ranging from suspension issues, fuel pump (but that was a bad batch from their supplier), windshield wind noise, Valvetronic solenoid, and other drivetrain malfunctions. |

Pick up an E90 now, it'll satisfy your wife with four doors and yourself with that S65. Look into the F80 later on in the production cycle. |

Not gonna race. It's gonna be for driving around, long drives, things like that. It's only for me, wife is getting a range.

Thought about that a lot since the F30 was a bummer as I got the 1st Feb production. It came with many issues such as steering wheel vibration and faulty signals. You are right.

Then in 2016, get whatever you want - maybe new coupe or improved F80 M3 model.

As for your general question, you're asking us to compare cars that don't even exist yet, so I'm not sure how you're expecting valuable information to come of it. If you're just asking in general whether you should get a coupe or sedan, it sounds like you already know the factors to consider, so again I don't see the point of the question. I agree that if family is a concern, a sedan has its merits because it's definitely irritating to hop out of the front seat just to let someone else into or out of the back all the time. I bought the coupe because I preferred its styling and seldom have people in the back, but if I had kids I probably would have gone the other way. At the end of the day, wait until they come out then ideally wait another year or two afterward so the bugs get ironed out, have an honest conversation with your wife, and go with whatever the two of you decide on together. If you want the coupe, try to pitch it to her as "your" DD and weekend car if she has a more practical car that can be used for family stuff. But remember, whichever you get, it's still an M3, so if she's already onboard with the idea of you getting an M3, you've already won 90% of the battle.

Get the coupe and get a decent beater that can haul the kids, drivable in inclement weather, better gas mileage, grocery getter. You can't go wrong . Being that you've owned the E9X already then wait for the new M, if you can't wait that long buy a preowned and still get a beater to keep the miles down and trade in for the new model after the second year run.

The coupe is definitely very usable with young kids. I've had my E92 for over four years and my daughter just turned two. Never had problems installing here in the back. I went for the coupe as I prefered the styling of the 2 door.
