This is the bay area, so there is nearly $7k in tax and license fees to account for in that $60k total. $53k for a very low mileage 2016 car in a nice color combo from a bmw dealer is not that far off reality. Hopefully the car has sub 15k miles.

That said, if this car was advertised as a competition package, and you can prove it, then you should go in and speak to the dealer GM and see what solutions they offer before engaging an attorney. If you can’t come to an agreement, then try to get BMW corporate involved and see if they’re willing to intervene. If all else fails, legal recourse against the dealer is your only option, and it’ll probably be borderline if it’s worth going after them outside of say, small claims court, since no attorney is going to take this case on contingency, so your legal fees will be substantial.

I’m curious about how this is just now coming to light and how your friend didn’t utilize the resources you’re obviously aware of to vet the car before buying it?

If memory serves, the Competition Package was introduced in February 2016, about two weeks after I placed the order for my M4 for a May European Delivery. I had time to change the order, but at the time, I didn't like the seats or the silver 666 wheels, so I did not change my order.

A friend from the Bay Area ordered an M4 roughly the same time I did and did get the Competition Package. We did our Euro Delivery together, in May 2016, along with 2 M3s and 10 M2s. Search Facebook for #CentennialMTour and you should see pics.

Edited.

If the window sticker and paper work says competition package, then definitely makes sense. If the paper with signature has no mention of competition package then I really don't think dealer is at fault here? Your friend should have read the documents before signing to be honest.

If you guys would stop regurgitating bad info, it would be very helpful. Yes, competition package WAS available in 2016, in later phases of the model year.

Sales tax alone is county dependent and can be over 10% in california commie ground zero - the SF Bay Area. CA registration on. $53k car is another $700-$800 plus transfer fees and other dealer doc fees, etc. Believe it.

Sticker was $51k to be exact which is high for a base model M3. It'll just boil down to the GM on how much he wants to screw him or not.

I looked into it ... they were asking $51,981 and it’s also a CPO car with 20k miles. Mineral white/sakhir and well spec’d other than the lack of ZCP. It was in fact advertised as a Comp package car, which clearly it is not. $51k or $52k is not that far off the mark on the retail side from a BMW dealer given the CPO, mileage and color combo. Good luck getting this resolved although I am still surprised people hop into a $60k purchase without knowing what they’re actually buying.

Call the regional sales manager for your area. They will get involved. Call a local news station. I'd stop driving it.

Be weary an idiot saying it's a comp pack is different than if you signed paperwork stating otherwise. Do your homework kids.

Good luck brother, if it doesn't pan out just chalk it up to life's lessons. Not worth losing sleep over.

Damn, I am sorry to hear. Steven Creek is the worst in my opinion, when I was looking for an allocation to place an order on a F80 Comp they initially quoted me a lower price to get me to come in and will give me a price that beat rest of the bay area dealership. I was quoted $76,845 before tax and fees and that is with a supposed $4000 discount for a 2018 M3 in Alpine White with competition package, executive package, manual transmission, and wireless charging. That was the exact same price as the MSRP. I asked, is this the price before additional incentive is apply, the CA flat out said there is no incentive for M model vehicles and said that was their invoice price and not willing to go any lower. In the end I went to a socal dealership and basically got blacklisted by Steven Creeks with Bay Area BMW dealership accusing me not being serious for purchase and just wanted a joy ride.

Yup had a similar story when I was shopping around for the original M2. Told me at MSRP and all of a sudden $5k mark up lol. Took my business elsewhere and now I have a great relationship with Fresno BMW where they've sold me two M2's at MSRP.

This^^

$52k sticker for a '16 CPO car w/ 20k miles in the Bay (keep in mind, i'd argue this is the most expensive metropolitan area in the US) is definitely within the range, albeit probably at the upper limit (especially without ZCP). I get that to people outside the Bay this seems expensive, but there are an infinite amount of people here who are like OPs buddy who will just go in completely unprepared and buy from the dealer at asking ESPECIALLY in Silicon Valley (exactly where SC BMW is) - that's just how it is out here. $60k all in for a car isn't that much money for people who live out here... trust me I know how f'd up that sounds.

Great news! Glad it worked out.

Edit: Now we all need to check the dealer’s website in a day or two to see if they re-list it with comp pack.

Bay area salaries.

Call me an ass for making assumption about OP, but there are plenty of individuals on the road with fancy cars (top of the range models) but no sense of driving.

That wasn’t an option when the comp package was initially released, which is when SD / / /M4 got his. It was only 20” 666 silver at first. They added the black 20” 666 and 19” 437 as options later.
