Now if someone will do the Phone and Voice command buttons the steering will look great.
Would you be willing to sell the original buttons?

Just took out the T20 screw from the back of the wheel using a compact ratchet and worked the button pod out to the outside of the wheel. Easy-peasy!

If for some reason you do want to remove the airbag I found a 6mm T-handle hex wrench worked well. And there's no need to disconnect it; you can just swing it up out of the way. No need to disconnect battery if you're not messing with the connections, either.
I know I'm replying to an old post but thanks for sharing this. It worked perfectly for my M2C with a MT. Installation took less than 10 minutes!

I just did the install of the red M1/M2 buttons. One little issue, the cruise control resume button and the toggle switch don't have any spring in them. I must have broken something. Before I take it apart again, any ideas if this is a simple fix or will I need to replace something?

There's little white tabs that go into the rocker button that goes up and down. I hope you didn't loose them because idk where you get them from. Check around where you did the work and see if there still there.

Thanks! Took it apart and found one of the white tabs was out of place and luckily I found one on my garage floor.

Also, my wife was nice enough to shut the trunk while my battery was disconnected. Pushed the car out and hooked up the jumper cables.

All worked out in the end.

Got mine off Amazon as someone else here has done and they looked good especially for $25 for all 3. I just used a eye glass flat head and pry tool and popped both M1 and M2 buttons out in less than 5min and did t break any of the factory black buttons.
