Got into accident with my brand new M4 :(

Don't have much input in terms of DV...

Awhile back my wife's X5 got rear ended. The other party admits fault. The damage is purely on the trunk but the lower trunk and the bumper needs replacing. 6K in repair. I have Geico as well, and when I inquire about DV, they basically bluff me off. For me, I didn't bother pursuing, since it's a lease, but I can totally see your point. It's like why do we have to put up with this, since for sure it does affect the value when you do go sell it.

However, I think it's difficult to prove that unless you are actively trying to sell. Please report back later how it turns out, I have heard instances that it's difficult to get DV. However, supposingly you should be able to rent a similar type of vehicle while it's in the shop, just that it may not be easy to rent one realistically. Geico wasn't particularly helpful, they at the end ask me to pay out of pocket for rental first, and then give me the opposing insurance and they cut me a check directly. Now, with both parties being Geico, you may just double check. FYI, you can rent nicer vehicle at a place called SIXT (they have a branch in SJC, probably should be in OAK and SFO too).

Good luck, sorry to hear this, I had couple accidents in the household last year, but just find a good shop to get it fixed and don't overthink it too much. Keep good record of your repair, at least you can show future buyer that you treat your car seriously and got it fixed at a very reputable shop...

Insurance company didn't think the damage is so bad that the car can't be fixed, so they decided to fix it.

If it's a lease then guaranteed that BMWFS goes after the other parties insurance for a DV claim. They use a third party firm called Goldfein. It will be paid to BMWFS and you won't even know it. BMWFS also will not lower the buyout price even though they collect the DV payment. Good reason to never buyout a lease if you had even a minor fender bender.

Don't forget to submit a claim for diminished value (due to the repairs) to offset a reduced sale or trade-in value if you decide to sell. It'll be on the CarFax.

What a fuqn 'mare. I'm so sorry.

I'd reject any at speed damage to my car. I'm OK with parking lot bruises, but not OK with this level of hurt. Even lesser degrees of damage would rile up my OCD levels to a point where I'd quarantine myself from it permanently.

Again, my sympathies...

because the insurance company thinks it is more economical for them to repair it. While this is certainly a bummer, this is a fairly simple quarter skin replacement, plus whatever is bent on the rear suspension (likely some control arms, maybe a knuckle, shock, etc.). Probably ~$25K to repair at a reputable shop by the time it's all said and done. That $21K initial estimate will not be the final number, and the insurance company knows it, but even with a couple of supplements, this repair is unlikely to exceed $25K, unless someone is not good at what they do and they miss something fairly major on the initial inspection.

If they write it off, they need to cut a check to OP for ~$60K-$64K incl. tax, reg, etc. The salvage value is probably around $25K-$28K or so as is, leaving them with a net loss of $35K-$38K (guesstimate). By comparison, if the estimate was written at $21K for the repair, and it ends up costing $25K, they get to save the difference if the car is repaired instead of totaled, which in this case is a significant amount.

When the difference is borderline, many insurers will choose to total since it generally means a quicker settlement and less of a headache overall.

make sure that rear suspension and subframe (if dmged )is fixed extremely properly. even 1cm movement or bend will give you huge headaches. ad from what I see I there is a proper dmg. I am suprised why it is not totaled.

I am also suprised how people reacted like take it. show these people these photos and none of them would ever buy this car even if they get a good deal.
I am not a pick guy but this damage is way too much. I believe car wont be the same

Diminished Value, looked at Goldstein and other parties that provide these services, including appraisals to use with the other party. I think it is definitely something I would do. Did anybody ever do a claim?

Thanks for suggesting a diminished value claim. I didn’t know it was an option. I’ve also got into a rather serious accident but remained uninjured. However, the car got a little bit of damage, and I got a quote from a repair shop for about $18K. However, I think there might be some more severe damage to the underneath structure of the car, which cannot be examined at first sight.
