J Pipe Recommendations

Anyone care to share their thoughts on the best fitting J pipe for our cars? Looking to upgrade mine for peace of mind.

I am not looking to add WMI. Just looking for the absolute best fitment and worry free installation

I know you already sent me a dm but here is my opinion again in case others are wondering. The best quality finish is Evolution Racewerks.

There are cheaper options with a good finish and spot-on fitment for a more affordable price; the most popular for us is MAD. CTS is a close second.

CTS absolutely should NOT have their name submitted here. Their J-pipe vacuum port is painted over and does not CLICK onto the oem hose, specifically because of this flaw. You have to use zip ties and whatnot to ensure the hold is effective. Separately, CTS chargepipes also fit horrendously.

Please don't simply recommend products you sell lots of for low price that have issues. Doesn't help the community make informed decisions.

Maybe it was a bad batch or early revision?

It sucks that something as basic as that could have been missed in QC testing haha.

I've had my fair share of those experiences with some of the smaller companies. That's why I tend to stick with tried and true brands. They cost more but at least you don't have to deal with the headaches.

I have CTS J-pipe and have had zero issues with fitment and quality is good. The nipple for the hose was not painted and hose fit perfect, no ziptie for me or leaks. I've had it now for well over a year with MAD CP's, I did have CP fitment issues but they worked aight with some finessing but not a perfect fit as they hit airbox no matter what we did so I left it alone and moved on.

We sell 2-3 CTS J-pipe a week on average, I went back to 2020 and I still cannot find out any return request. Maybe you got a defective part?

I also have the CTS J-pipe fwiw and didn't have a great time installing it, but that's more of a personal problem. I also haven't had any problems with vacuum port tbh, although it isn't the most stable since my OEM clip is broken on one side somehow.

How much of a downside is that heat soak? Still worth replacing the plastic j pipe?

It's a fairly small part not sure the air would have much time to heat up at the speed it's traveling .

Possibly, second worry is how secure the jpipe is to the throttle body with the U clip vice the OEM zip tie. Thanks to topjimmy for the sharpie alignment gouge, but still a concern

Not sure why bmw did the zip tie thing for our cars.

My old N54 and the wife's N55 both use C clips

One thing I'd recommend for MAD is to more tightly control their silicone coupler ID. Mine was a bit too loose such that even with their clamp tightened all the way the coupler could slide down the pipe unless the clamp was on top of the bead at the pipe end.
