Best way to improve sound without a tune?
Currently driving a stock 2015 M3 I have about $1k budget and want to make the car louder with occasional burbles. What's the best way to achieve this? I definitely don't want to tune it because of crank hub fears and the car is already powerful enough for me. I would appreciate any input or links to products

Consider starting off doing the exhaust flap delete. Costs zero however it does take about 5-10 minutes of your time.

i'm pretty sure you can do bootmod3 and leave it on the stock/comp/cs tunes and add the burble tune for sound.

Correction, not SSR.
*Active Autowerke makes a single midpipe

I turned off ASD (active sound) via coding and unplugged my exhaust flaps and i'm pretty happy with it for now. Eventually I will get a midpipe and a tune and probably plug the flaps back in since it will be way louder.

Turning off active sound is the best decision, the constant droning would give me a headache after a while

Best bang for buck exhaust mod would probably be to replace centre resonator with an X-pipe. It's essentially what many aftermarket exhausts to.
For more volume, cut out the secondary cats. If that's too raspy, put Vibrant bottle resonators in their place. On my to-do list if I get to that point with this car. |

Do the tune from Alpine. I love the sound of my exhaust!! And he can add burble, too.

Stupid question.. eliminating secondary cats still passes emissions inspection correct? Primaries still cut it?

The only way to get burbles on a Base without a tune is with DPs and a full 3.5 AA exhaust. That's way over budget for 2 little pops. That combo sounds wicked though on acceleration...total race car.
I suggest you buy a used BM3 license for $350-400 here on the posts. You can pick the Stage 1 as your "paid for" tune and hold onto it for later when you want more power. Then download the no-cost CS or GTS map (stock power) and set Sport/+ valves to always open. That'll put a smile on your face, and keep $600 in your pocket. If you have questions on how to transfer BM3 just PM me. If that doesn't satisfy you the $600 goes for a used AA single midpipe to increase volume, lower tone and remove rasp.

Late Update: ending up going with BM3 GTS tune and VRSF mid pipe. Just added BMC drop in filters also and everything sounds amazing now!

hah, I ended up doing almost the same. vsrf single midpipe and BM3 but I'm running the CS tune instead of the GTS, I should try the GTS just to see if I notice a difference.
