"Interior light regulator" not working during daytime

Hello members of bimmerpost!

My primary language is not English so some of the translations regarding the buttons might be off.

I have a strange problem with my m4, the light regulator that is on the left side of the steering wheel is not working on day time... When I park the car in the garage I can using the wheel(regulator) make the idrive display, headup, instrument cluster either darker or brighter. This has always worked until now, and the weird part is it works fine in the garage where it's dark. So at daytime I have to manually brighten for example the idrive display through the idrive settings and not the light regulator wheel.

I have not done a service recently or any mods, the car is completely stock.

From the manual:

“The parking lights or low beams must be switched on to adjust the brightness.”

If your lights are on auto then they will come on automatically in the dimmer light of a garage, so the brightness would work in the garage, but not in the daylight.

This happens at the car wash or shop when someone sets the light switch to off and you don’t expect this because you are sure that you did not touch this. We have all been there.
