the 'modifying' culture is to blame. people go overboard on their cars. a couple little tweaks...fine. spending that much on modifications? a total waste of time and money....materialistic excess cannot buy you happiness.
For some people it can. The whole point of buying cars for some people is to mod them and make it their own unique look. But unfortunately 95% of the German crowd mods their cars almost the same ("OEM+")...

I think that's too much as well. Mine was $68K out the door.

And before I get flamed for that reply, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with spending $90K+ on an M3/M4 if that's what you want and that makes you happy. For me it's too much as personally I would get a different car for that price range. At $150K I would also go 911 GT3 as others have said. At $90K+ I would go Carrera S stripped or maybe M6.

dunno that i would get to the $150k range but there is no shame in having $100k+ into an M3.

I have nearly than into an E9X and i wouldnt have it any other way. The only possible upgrade for an Supercharged V8 M3 is a heavily modded F8X M3. 911's, R8's etc. are not viable replacements for an M3 sedan if you put your kids in it.. M5's are too big.

lol

I think this thread just shows that there is nothing wrong with spending 6-10k in mods because you're actually holding yourself back from spending $60K in mods... tell your girl that.. might work lol

Plenty of the guys on this forum with over 100k in their cars are one of two people.

When you tell them they could have bought a gt3 for the money either they:

1) already have a gt3 and or other equivalent cars

2) would respond with, "well then it would be stock"

Part of the fun is modifying cars over time as projects or builds etc. For the money they could have had something else. But they don't want something else, they want their own individualized M3 that they were able to have some say in its characteristics/design/performance etc.

After this thread pointed out that the gt3 rs is $170k msrp I looked into the used pricing of the 997.2 and 991 gt3 and it seems like those just don't depreciate. Dang. Wonder if there is a bubble there or if that's going to be the norm for those "gt series" cars.

They already cost more than $150,000 in many markets stock anyway.

It's the norm, certainly for the 997's....halo cars in limited numbers with impeccable pedigree and the benchmarks for their time. They are sure-thing classics.

There is no shame in having any amount of money in a car if it rocks your boat. Unless you benchmark your car spend on what an anonymous internet forum thinks of you.

Sure, ay is a bad start for mods, and it's not like I've made him more subtle on the way but but the fuck yeah this is mine is in my head on every start.

I would recommend every owner who wants a 150+ car to think if you want a car or a toy. I'm willing to bet that much money thrown into this won't impress many of the daily drivers
Sorry, but are you saying you regret AY?

Angry

All the $$$$ won't help if the automakers are able to pass this law.

This not only effects modders but also DIYers

Time to use your rights and speak out!

Yes. No. I am not sure.

I love it. I truly and madly love it. Sadly it took a lot of work and money to get it right and also blending in never happens and then I'm stuck in my Audi if that's needed.

Then again, I'm proud every time I walk to my car. I can't believe I bought that, since I've always loved M's because they are subtle, and then I get mine in yellow... The only reason I haven ordered myself an M3 is that I'd have to get a boring color to it.

While I would like a nicely done vented CF hood, that is a bit excessive. Okay, more than a bit. Kind of along the lines of 'Holy crap' excessive.

There are many cars I would buy if I had more money to spend on them. A GT3 is not anywhere on that list. ......just saying'...

I would love to see a poll on how much people have spent on their cars plus mods....
This is what its about. We arent talking about limited production cars here. Even a GT3 isnt very limited. I think I saw about 10 of them at a show up in CT this past weekend.

So if we're talking about 115k. Would you rather have a Porsche C2S that if you live in any affluent area everyone and their wife is driving. Or would you rather have a individualized M4 with 600 crank hp?

For me the answer is pretty easy.

Guys have been doing this for decades. How much is a UGR TT kit for a gallardo.
To those guys they'd rather have a 1000hp gallardo than a 458 spyder.

and on and on we go.

You'd take the C2S?

J/K

I thought our hypothetical number was $150k not $115k that extra $ has got to be good for some more "dtm style" cf exterior parts or something.

I've spent over $80k on just my '97 M3 since 2002.....I tell myself, I could have a stock E36 M3 and a stock F80 M3 at this point, but oh well...."get busy living, or get busy dying"

And as you can see, I have a 97 and a 91, and the future wife's 2015 Ford Escape, so have to save up for the next generation I guess!

I was going to say something along the lines of 'that better be a damn nice E36' and then I saw your sig with the rwhp and rwtq figures, and it looks like it probably is.

There is almost nothing else to possibly do to the car to "mod" it at this point....but I don't plan to ever let her go!
