Called my local dealer about getting on a "waiting list". Sales Manager called me back, told me there is no list, and that he'd be happy to give me right of first refusal for the first allocation for an M3. With no deposit.

This is a dealer with decent allocations too.

It's all a game and market specific.

Not sure why so many are jumping all over Desmond. Panties in a bunch? He made a post about something that is on a lot of peoples mind. You don't like what he's saying, move on to the next thread.

For what its worth. the well known David Aviles does not seem to be having much luck with allocations, or great pricing. Same goes for the military purchase program. I want one of these babies, but there is a limit to how foolishly i'll spend my money. So waiting a year might be the best option.

The car will be sold at launch for MSRP. If that's not a "fair" price to you, that's fine, but there's no need to complain.

Personally, if I were disciplined enough to make a rational car purchase, I would be buying a Toyota Corolla, not a M4.

A used Toyota Corolla.

The car is afterall...a toy

7% off US MSRP or even 10% off MSRP is a big chunk

I will most likely wait and probably try to get an M235i for now

What? complaints are half of the forum posts. You have exceptionally useful DIY posts...and complaints. I was just not sure why people were giving the OP so much shit.

As for the last part you said...that's why I said there are limits to how foolishly I'll spend my money. I'm not disciplined enough to buy a sensible car either, on the other hand I can't live with being bent over in a deal for the car I want.

Maybe wait a year for the M3, or my CA has already said he could get me into a eurodelivery M235i at below euro msrp...so that may be the way to go.

the bmw loyalty is if you bought a new bmw from them, or if you own a bmw?

Those are two separate discounts. There is one for BMW CCA and another for bmw loyalty. I think for bmw loyalty you must have bought a new car from them during the last 2-3 years.

As I understand it the loyalty credit is from BMW FS and thereby only available when you finance or lease. For us that buy cash do you know if there is a minimum sum that need to be financed? I.e can I finance $100 and get the loyalty credit?

I'm not sure but I was told just this morning that there is not currently a loyalty credit but one may be available before I take delivery.

Funny how we have to pay dealers our money to spend more of our money. Think about it.

No, I think they have a treshold.. I am a banker and I have to ask this. Why pay cash? You can get a loan at 1.99 apr and pretty much play with house money and put your money in stocks as I am sure you already have tons to pay 70k cash for a car (not arguing just want to see the logics behind it as I have seen a few other posters do the same)

We have been debt free for the last 15 years. It's a lifestyle choice that makes us happy. I've no arguments on what is the best investment strategy. It's a discussion that is bound to derail

I think part of the problem is that BMW are releasing the car simultaneously in US and Europe. Previous E9x M3 was released later in the US. This will cause a supply and demand issue because obviously they can only build so many cars over a given time period. There are already rumours of limited build slots for the UK. The E60 M5 had a 2 year waiting list from launch in the UK. When this happens and demand is greater than the supply this gives dealers the chance to charge over the list price because they know someone will pay.

You must be talking about dealer launch cars sold to customers cause no allocations have been dished out yet to anyone in the US

Being able to pay msrp doesn't make them an idiot. They have the money to be the first ones to play. There's nothing wrong with that. Some dealership take advantage and some don't. You don't want to pay msrp we'll guess what you'll have to play the waiting game for a while. It's not that hard Desmond.

I don't think there is anything wrong with having to pay MSRP for a newly released model, especially one with a limited supply. I'm actually more surprised with the people that expect huge discounts. Big discounts hasn't always been the case, especially with BMWs. Not sure when the expectation changed but when I first started looking at new cars (mid 90s) I remember only the American cars offered significant discounts. Now it seems everyone expects invoice pricing which has led to the inflated MSRPs.

Could be. He sounded pretty confident that the dealership was only getting two cars this year (one M3 and one M4) and they are already spoken for.
