Nice...I just hit them up and Adam mentioned the same 8 week wait for the Gen 5 kit. Placing my order tomorrow. I was about to go with the Essex AP kit but this new Stoptech kit is such a great deal.

Are there part numbers for the new Gen 5 kit?
Race kit PN are here https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=27145995

If I were to do this all over again, I'd just order the street kit and remove the dust boots myself and order a set of antiknockback springs for just the fronts. Going the race kit route I didn't think about the amount of noise from the race hardware kit so that cost me an extra $240.

Isn't that kit you mentioned the Gen 4 kit and not the latest gen 5?

I was also under the impression that antiknockback springs were already included in both the street and race kits. hmmmmm

I would imagine that I'm getting the gen 5 kit seeing as it hasn't even finished being made yet. They don't come with akb springs, only difference between them is the dust seals, pads that come with, and rotor hardware.

What's the difference between gen4 and gen5? Based on the posted pics, it looks like I have gen5.

Gen 5 Trophy:
Computer aided design for weight reduction, stress distribution, stiffness
optimization, and cycle fatigue characteristics
• 3% weight reduction over Gen 4 STR calipers (15-20% weight reduction over our
standard painted calipers)
• Engineered Integration with OE ABS/Traction control systems
• Nickel Plated with two color logo (Red & Black)
• No externally exposed caliper bolts, inboard bolt installation
• Differential bores to manage pad taper
• Caliper bridge added for increase stiffness
• Pad spring clips and abutment plates designed to reduce noise (NVH)
• Caliper body profiles optimized for weight reduction
• Bodies incorporate faceted surfaces, more eye capturing
• Nickle finish mitigates discoloring potential
• Black Anodized finish on the bridges

Looks identical to what I got besides the friction disc that has a different slot pattern.

Edit: I now see that there are some machining differences

I'm pretty sure you have gen 5

The rotor difference is the street vs race surface.

The machining by the connecting tube and bleed valve is a bit different. I guess that's where the 3% in weight savings comes from

It's interesting, some of the Gen 5 promotional material even on stoptech's IG pages talks about how they moved the hardware holding the two halves together inbound so you can't see it from the outside — yet even some of the pictures for gen 5 calipers shows the hardware on the outside.

My experience with StopTech is that they are struggling to put out an easy to digest message on what is what.

At any rate, my main test will be on March 29th with GGLC at Laguna. I already have a set of Hawk DTC70 pads in the garage waiting to be installed. I'll update my review after that event

quick question about this kit - does the front caliper use regular ST60 shaped pads? I'm receiving conflicting info on this.

Update - followed up with Adam @ Buy brakes today. My kit is being built rn with a target completion date of Mar 15th.

ST60 can take two pad types. It can take a 50+mm and a 62mm wide pad. You need to ensure that you get the 62mm wide annulus font pads.

congrats, sounds like you will be receiving it sooner than I do!

What pad are you planning on running? I was thinking about using PFC08, which I have been using with factory caliper. However, PFC08 for ST60 only comes in standard width of 50mm, instead of 62mm for the wide annulus rotor.

I'm going with the Stoptech 308 and Stoptech sr34 street/track setup. I've seen good reviews on the track pads and they're super cheap compared to other options.

I've seen the SR34s compared to the PFC08 at almost half the cost.

Also I ordered back in mid December.

Did you order both front and rear kit? I only ordered the front, and am trying to figure out the right pads combo since SR34 doesnt have a version for stock rear caliper.

How much were the track pads for front and rear?

I paid $535 for Hawk DTC70 pads. (62mm front and 50mm rear)

Mine were packaged into the kit but I've seen them for about $450-$500 for the full set of st60/st40.

Brakes finally came in, looks like the STR60s are slightly updated the STR40s are still the older design.

Looks like they sent me two sets of pads — 308 street pads with the correct front annulus width and sr34 track pads with the narrower front annulus width lol.

Heh. Get in touch with Adam and StopTech to exchange the track pads for the wide version...

Edit: Also, let me know if the bridges are smoother to use... I had to bust out some sand paper to make the bridge removal possible once the calipers are mounted
