Maybe don't fit the * marked Michelin Pilot Sport 4S

Not sure if anyone cares, but I was recently deciding what street tires to fit to my F80 in the stock sizes (255&275/35R19)

I wanted a Michelin, but the PSS is an older tire now so I thought the * marked PS4S would be the answer.

Knowing this was not the factory option, I did some digging as I figured it might be a mess, and the results are

The 255/35R19 PS4S* is the rear fitment for a non-m 2 or 3 series.
The 275/35R19 PS4S* is the front fitment for a G series BMW.

So you'd have rears on the front and fronts on the rear.

I went for aftermarket.

you can run the * 275 in front if you want - it's narrow and fits like a 265. You'd have to pair it with a non * rear though on the stock 19/19 setup.

Good choice going non * because front and rear tires are designed differently. Front tires have wide grooves whereas rear tires have narrower grooves. Compounds can be slightly different, too. Although the PSS is an older tire, it still performs well. PSS have a stiffer sidewall than most PS4S but PS4S has better grip than PSS. Tire wear is similar for both. My wife’s car needs new tires and we’re switching from PSS * to PS4S non *.

A FULL car key got embedded into her front tire!

I never thought about running a 275 square with the PS4S*. I know that tyre very well and it's exceptional on the G series!

Yeah I did the Star Spec thing on my new 255/275 PS4S and the rears are noticeably thinner than the PSS they replaced. Don't care for them, tbh.

Hi John, I know this reply is late, but I wanted to share my experiences here. I think the generic PS4S isn't well-suited to the F80. I found that it rendered the steering lighter, reduced steering feel, and made the car less stable / predictable in turns. Unfortunately, I don't know what to recommend instead other than the original PSS* in this size if you're seeking summer street tires. I ended up relegating my 437M's to winter duty, shod with Pilot Alpin PA4's.

To solve this problem, I ended up switching to 681M's or my summer set up. This allowed me to run the excellent *-marked Cup 2's. This was the best upgrade I ever did for my F80. The 763M's also fit the *Cup 2's, although they are 0.5" narrower front and rear.

Don't know if this helps. Let us know what you end up getting and pleae share your opinions on it!
