763m on M3 Competition (not the CS)

Hi all,

I recently purchased a 2018 M3 with competition package, and this particular car came with 763m wheels rather than the 666m wheels that's part of the ZCP package.

I'm still trying to learn my way around this car, but I just found out that the upgraded 763m is in the following staggered configuration:

Front:265/35ZR19
Rear: 285/30ZR20

I'm surprised that the front wheels are smaller than the rear wheels in diameter. My prior car (135is) also had staggered configuration, but on that car, the wheels were of the same diameters front and rear. Are the wheels on this appropriately configured? And are these appropriate for daily driving? I don't intend to track this car other than maybe taking one or two car clinics in the future - not sure what the benefit or drawback is with having tires with differing diameters front and rear. thanks!

Did yours come with sport cup 2's?

I have the same exact configuration as yours and it works fine for me. New model M3/M4's now have this setup for what they call a double staggered.

BMW actually sold it as an M performance upgrade in that exact setup and an expensive option as well.

Here is a quote from BMW itself why the setup. "BMW also drastically changed the tire sizes from front to rear. So the front tires get a smaller wheel with a taller sidewall and narrower size. The taller sidewall is most important, as it provides a better balance between comfort and grip. However, at the back, the tires are wider, have shorter sidewalls and sit on larger wheels. The reason for that is to provide better lateral grip, or “oblique running stiffness” as BMW calls it."

I have since lowered my car with Eibach springs and added 12mm spacers all around.

Thanks! No, my car is fitted with super sports. My guess is the prior owner swapped the tires at some point, though this car has less than 18,000 miles on it. I assume Michelin super sports work with these wheels as well?

Pics attached also!

PSS are great tires. Better tread wear and street use than Sports Cups. Congrats!

The wheels you have are awesome. 20 inch rear and 19 front. Similar to how Porsche does it but we are not used to that with BMW M.

I am buying the exact wheels you have this weekend for my 2020 M4 Competition.

You're all good. You have killer wheels on your car

Thanks all!

I'm so excited to learn more about this car and to drive it properly -- and our local BMW club is offering a CCC in April too. Can't wait!

You're fine. F: 265/35/19 and R: 285/30/20 are OEM GTS specs and SportCup2 equipped CS specs. 763M are the prettiest (IMO) BMW wheels and one of the lighter (lightest? Not sure) ones too. Enjoy.

Those were bought separately as an accessory. The OEM CS ones don’t have the M Performance logo on the outside. When purchased separately i believe you could choose 19 (CS spec) or 20 on the front.

Front tire size varied on the CS between 255 and 265 depending on if you had the PSC2.

Only for the CS ones? Saw them with the M Performance logo, also does anyone know what would be a reasonable price to buy them lightly used with Cup tires?

CS from the factory dont have M performance logo and are Orbit Grey.

Those available for purchase as an accessory come in matte black or frozen gold, can be 19 or 20 (or 19f/20r) and have the M Performance logo on the lip.

Love the 763. The 19s in the front make the car so compliant verse the 666 I had. And the rear looks better with 20s in the arches IMO. I love this setup. Nice OEM class packing a nice punch on the street or track

I find the 763M to be one of the best BMW OE wheel offering in a very long time.

I had to get a second set of wheels for winter tyres as I’m in Stuttgart now.

So I’d be looking for the gold 763 with cup 2 but in the end I was lucky to find an orginal CS set in Orbit grey with SS tyres.

Most noticeable thing is the much improved ride around town on poor surfaces where the 19 fronts seem to soak up bumps.

I’ve been told that the CS wheels with no logos are lighter that the ones with M performance logos, can anyone confirm?

I still love the 666 but the 763 are so much easier to clean!

What size tires are you running both front and rear on the 763M wheels and are spacers installed?
