Failed Inspection - Tune Only (BM3)

Hi guys, wondering if anyone has experience here that could tell me what is wrong.

I live in NJ and we do an emissions inspection. My car is stock aside from the Stage 2 OTS Bootmod tune.

I recently went to inspection and failed because the systems "werent ready." The attendant said it might be because I don't drive my car everyday (its a weekend type car, but I drive it during the week here or there). I didn't think that was it, as the only NOT READY signals were at the 02 and CATS.

It is possible it is the Stage 2 tune (since this is setup for downpipes and maybe trying to turn off CEL?). Any input appreciated.

The OTS tunes won't get all sensors ready. I think it's cat heat that never goes green. I tried everything.

Flash to stock…drive around till all greens (can take a long time)…then go Pass.

Came to say the exact same thing. I JUST did this two weeks ago myself - had to flash back to stock. Drove around for like 20-30mi just to make sure I was good and passed without a problem.

If you paid for Bootmod3 then you should ask the shop to change the account email into your email, and to give you the password.

I have been ridin dirty without inspection for over a year now due to the BM3 tune + catless DP's. Is the going resolve still to apply the dual defoulers to the primary cats, drive around till status reads "ready" with the cat sensors turned back on - then take it in for inspection (I have defoulers already); or is there a "simpler" resolve?

Bro, I see you're Philly so PA rules apply. You can pass in PA with 1x Not Ready but the Bm3 makes it difficult. Simplest is stick on your cats and a stock tune, works for sure but Jeeeeeezz… You can try the O'Reillys on catless, but leaving them on throws off your Lambda readings. It's a hard choice. Easier to "find a guy".

I tried really hard to do the same thing here but time is money. Emissions is getting phased out here in Mid-TN but my county is the last one to keep it. Lines are like 45min of idling to get in, so there's really no telling if I'd ever have been able to make it through.

High-turnover at these spots make is insanely hard to find someone who will just push it through here.

Couple guys I know have had success using defoulers and stuff with N54's, driving around for a little bit and then sneaking on through emissions before a CEL pops. It seems like a tough game to play though and I'd hate having to try multiple times.

It was a hassle, but the most efficient thing was stock cats/tune and go back to boring mode for a few days.

Its harder to find a guy willing to overlook the ready readings.... I went to two ppl that I thought would do this, but they insisted the readings show X1 Not Ready vs X2. I dont have my cats anymore, so the only options are to do the defoulers which seems simple enough, or just keep rolling the dice with expired stickers.

Stage 2 bootmod3 requires a high flow or catless downpipe. If you're running stage 2 on a stock downpipe I would definitely not do that lol

It is reccomended, not required. Been running it this way for over year and a half! The shop who did the BM3 tune is highly highly respected, said no problem.

Definitely have the shop give you access to Bootmod3. I bought my car used and the seller bought Bootmod3 and was able to transfer it over to my name free of charge.

reflash stock - inspect - reflash back to stage 2

As far as tuning with bootmod3, you have the option to program the stock tune back on the car at any time. Stage 1 leaves the catalytic monitors in place as well. Stage 2 turns off the monitor for catalytic converters due to the CEL that happens when downpipes are changed and will register a NOT READY status for the O2 and catalytic tests which depending on your emissions may or may not allow you to pass emissions testing.

I pass with no problem on OTS stage 2 in NY, full catless and even on full e85. You don't check the box to turn off the CEL in the configurator, and if you are catless you MUST space the o2 rear sensors with stacked (2) spark defoulers. I randomly checked the readiness status last week and all were green and ready to go.

Flash to stock and complete a drive cycle, a drive cycle is 200 miles. then go get the test. Easy day. Hope this helps

Yeah I gave up, I dont have a laptop, nor do I want to go 45m to the shop, flash to stock, drive 200, inspect, go back flash, etc. Its just an incredible amount of work for a sticker in this stupid state. Therefore, I have a 10/2021 inspection sticker still on my car - hasn't been an issue as we approach 2023!

So it seems like having the check engine option was my issue I still have my stock downpipe attached. Only mods are charge pipe and Bm3 stage 1. I went in for inspection today in NJ and was rejected for systems not being ready and was told to do a drive cycle. Good to know that I just need to uncheck the CEL box.

Not sure about NJ but in California that’s a tow if you get pulled over. Won’t be able to get the car out of impound till the registration is current. NJ may have similar laws.
