Use 3M 88 electrical tape to seal the connectors. It's stickier and handles higher temp. I had this mod for a week now, I love it. The exhaust note is so much deeper.

Thanks for the tip on using the fingers of the glove for covering the plug. That worked great. To my surprise, there really isn't much drone. The little bit of drone I do detect is very minor and I can live with it.

Thanks for posting!

Any idea if in a M5 CP is as easy as this?

I have heard about the golf tee many times in the M5 but never about this easy way, and cannot check it right now.

I just did this mod too. I did notice a deeper growl on the low Rpms below 4k.

So far so good. Probably 10% louder than before

Haven't heard cold start yet

Just picked up my new M4 from the dealership one hour ago and as soon as I pulled into my driveway I jumped out and pulled those plugs lol. Sounds so much better at startup and low rpm cruising.

I live in a cul de sac and I don't want to make any neighboring enemies. I asked my neighbors if my louder exhaust bothered them, all 3 homes didn't notice and didn't care if they did. Be courteous, "Be good to thy neighbor..."

I think we can all agree there is a noticeable, and in my opinion a nicer deeper sound increase across all ranges, especially cold starts when this plug is pulled. I have it pulled on my car and def prefer the sound. The only part that weighs on my mind is the mystical "back pressure" argument that I have heard this can cause. While the turbos begin to spool the lack of back pressure can supposedly increase lag. Although I don't seem to feel any difference in my car, and believe this valve exists largely for sound purposes, I would be interested to hear from everyone else so I can stop thinking about it:

-do you feel there is any increased turbo lag when throttle is applied from 20 mph+

-do you feel any greater turbo lag off the line?

Shot a quick video today with Lups' M4 + Eisenmann exhaust and my M3 with exhaust valve/flap mod. I like how the Eisenmann sounds. But the flap mod is free

did this earlier today and went for a drive. i definitely noticed some drone in higher gears under load at low speeds. doesn't really bother me as i had a loud race exhaust on a subaru a while back and this is still very tame compared to that.

i used black electrical tape over each end and then taped the wire to itself on the side. even after 2400 miles of driving (including heavy rain, mud, dirt etc) that area has stayed surprisingly clean so i'm not overly worried about it getting destroyed. i don't think i'll be switching it back anytime soon though, it sounds pretty good.

anyone think there's a bigger difference with the windows down? inside the cabin seemed negligible but driving with the windows down i can appreciate the dB bump a bit more.

Great mod/video.

Any noticeable difference in fuel consumption? Apologies if this has already been addressed.

Viola! No need to get an exhaust system... maybe down-pipes though!

Thanks a million for this thread!

There is a tab on top of the plugs in the very middle. You have to the tab down hard while pulling the harness out.

Use a flat head screwdriver to wedge in between the tabs. super easy and painless that way

I did this tonight and the sound is much deeper under 4,000 RPM. Noticeably better... and louder. Downshifts make a really nice, deep growl and far more suitable to the car.

A bit of drone in 7th on the highway but not bad. The cold start and initial drive off is WAY louder... like much louder

Love it and it's free. I would have no need to change the exist with this mod unless someone wanted stupid, annoying loud.

Has anyone done this mod in conjunction with coding the active sound off?

I get the feeling that it would still be too quiet inside, despite the sound increase outside the car...

Did the mod. Amazing difference. Love the sound so much better over stock. Makes driving the car that much more enjoyable. Windows down, downshifts are much more apparent. Much more throaty. I don't feel like I'm driving a leaf blower an more! Cold start is way louder...neighbors beware.

That's right, now it sounds like a proper lawn mower instead of a leaf blower or chainsaw!!

Funny guy...

The quality of the sound is comparable to the C7 Stingray IMO (I wouldn't be so bold to say it is as good as the C63). Deep, rumbly, with a bit of a high pitch scream. Not quite as nice but close. It surprised me how much more bass the car has with the exhaust mod compared to OEM.

Lawnmower references are just silliness (I do, however, agree that with the valves closed it does not have a good tone or sound... this eliminates that completely).

I had the same problem (although only 6'4"). Passenger side plenty of room came out in 1 minute, driver side not so easy. I finally took a very small and short flat head screw driver and used that to get the tab pushed down and within 30 seconds had it out. Needed both hands with limited space. Keep at it.
