Lawnmower references are just silliness (I do, however, agree that with the valves closed it does not have a good tone or sound... this eliminates that completely).
Funny you mention the Stingray. I've been trying to explain the morning cold start sound to friends and that's been what I've describing it as. Sounds very unlike a 3 liter six.

Your car sounded good pulling away. I need to hear my car from the outside. I have no idea how it sounds. It sounds good inside though.

Hi guys, I have driven the car more than a week with this mod.
The sound is really good at low RPM, cold start and down shift.
But, I went to a country side road where I go everytime when I wanna have fun, and I felt the car a bit different. I felt some turbo lag and the turbo's whistling was louder.
Then, I plugged my VBOX and I did some 0-100km/h runs: 4,6 sec ~ 4,7 sec without LC. 4,4 with LC.
Then I stopped somewhere and plugged back the connectors. I did another set of runs, same road of course and the result is clear: 4,4 without LC and 4,1 with LC.

Does anyone know if its normal?

It would take a good bit more testing in controlled conditions to establish whether or not it's normal, but it stands to reason. Turbo cars do spool faster with a little back pressure/flow resistance in the exhaust. If BMW engineered the valves to provide that for spool up then we may all have to plug these back in or accept sound over performance.

This mod id awesome. Did it about 5 days ago and have enjoyed every bit of it. Goinmg through the Lincoln tunnel, it sounded ridiculous and backfired like crazy when letting off the throttle. Ill be getting downpipes this week, very excited to see how the exhuast mod sounds without cats

It makes sense.
For instance today I felt more power in high gear at low RPM than last week when I had the connectors unplugged.

Which also speaks to after market exhausts that are not valved... if this is, in fact, what is happening then it looks like non-valved exhausts like the one from ARK won't be as effective for the F8X.

Having said that, I haven't noticed any change in performance or lag with my car since I disconnected the valves. I'll have to pay attention to this to see if I can feel any sort of difference.

It would be nice if someone could data log boost over time and then do some roll ons from 2k, 3k, 4k rpm. It was my understanding that when you went 100% throttle the exhaust valves open up instantly anyways?

Have y'all tried pushing down the tab at the top of the connector closest to the wiring and then pulling a bit from the wiring (I know that is usually not advised but I found it to help a little as long as you are careful).

Idk where your located but it probably doesn't help that it's 20 degrees out while I'm trying to do it even in my garage.

Did the Mod a week ago- sounds better to my ears. much louder on cold start but much better in my opinion. Cant really see a problem in the drone- only 60-70 anyway and not bad.

Cant see any difference in performance at high revs, at low revs does it matter? The question is- why did BMW make it so easy to do when they could have easily sorted this?
