But people still track the PSS. I was under the impression the OP was asking about the NT05 street tire, not the NT05R.

I am talking about the NT05 street not the drag radial nT05R. People that "track" the PSS don't push the car hard because that tire can't handle heat. I would rate tires in terms of track performance like this:

NT01 > RE-71 > RS4 > NT05 > PSS

I can either run the NT05 265/35 and 285/35 or I can run a 275/35/18 and 295/35. The NT05 is cheaper but is it comparable to the old RS3 in terms of wear and grip? It is still an extreme pefermonace tire, but I assume it less desirable than an RE71 or RS4.

I am hesitant to run NT01 275 and 305 combo that everyone runs becuse I am on stock suspension and with my track experience I do not know if I am comfortable moving up to an R comp tire yet.

My car would be stock except for brake fluid, pads, and whatever tires I choose. Thanks guys!
Go NT01 and get better grip! Experienced or not the NT01 is a great tire to learn with then go full slicks. I ran NT01 as I was doing the majority of my set-up then went Pirelli P-Zero slicks.

I'd also add stainless brake lines to your car.

I always heard that its not good to learn on a R-comp tire since it will cover up things that you should learn.

Where would you slot the PSC2 and 888/888R in there?

I disagree, I think the better grip you have the more you can focus on learning the race line and less worry of getting loose.

Different platform but I had the NT05 on my E90 M3 and they were ok. I used to autocross with those tires. Not the best but not the worst. On my GT-R I’ve had the PSS and NT01. The NT01 is an amazing tire. Doesn’t last very long but the grip is really unbelievable. Much more grip than the PSS (as expected), but noisy and be prepared to replace them after 7,000 miles. I don’t mind doing that so I stick with the NT01 tires.

I don't have experience with them but assuming somewhere around the NT01 and slightly better than RE-71. Also just to clarify this is all in regards to dry performance and grip. Not talking about tread life or wet traction at all.

Back from the dead but I am the OP. I have run the NT05 on my stock F80 for 10 days or so now. Flip mounted the fronts. Still not corded.

Managed a few 2:16s at Watkins Glen with these tires and had worn PFC08s in MDM mode, so needless to say I am happy with the tires.

I don’t know if they will make it through my next 3 day event, probably will but I don’t want to risk it and am actually contemplating buying another set.

So wear rate, very impressed.

Dry traction I would say pretty similar to the RS3.
