When will F8x prices decrease?

Last year I noticed f82 coupes 2015-16 were pushing low to mid 40k in price for 30k miles.

Would the prices hikes create some sort of parity in the used car market? Before it was not uncommon to get an 2015-2016 f83 for 37k, or an M2 for the same price as well. Some of the appeal of the older M models is that buyers who do not have as much money to spend on the new model can get the older model for a more manageable price. But without these models being available, then buyers are forced to choose between a brand new vehicle which is outside the budget or over paying for the used vehicle, which is 10-12k away in price, but 5-6 years older

Today I can't find an f82 less than 50k for the same amount of mileage. I know there is a shortage in used cars, however when can we see a return back to normalcy in terms of pricing?

Really hard to say, here are my ramblings of the factors in play:
Fundamental drivers:
1) ICE cars will disappear in the next 10-20 year, creating demand for these high performance cars
2) The new G8x cars are less appealing visually
3) Inflation and weakening of the USD raises prices of everything

Macroeconomic factors:
1) Supply/demand dynamics also factor in the current craziness.
2) Macroeconomic tailwind on the re-opening of the world post Covid at play. This is not a simple linear path, but will be complete with its ups and downs.

My take is that is *if* you can find a deal in mid 40s and have the cash to spare, take the leap. I suspect that we won’t be back to the early 2020 prices for a while and by then, the cars will be older and it will be harder to find a unmolested sample.

Never, it's the new normal.

As ice takes off these cars will slowly appreciate. I think they bottom out at around 30k-35k

Once the chip shortage is no longer a shortage in 1-2 years, the car market will come back to reality.

That said, the G8X is not loved by many and people who waited for the G8X (like me) are buying or looking to get a good F8X car to enjoy and keep.

The reality is that BMW and every other car maker is moving to electric or hybrid sport cars. the F8X will one day be the last SEXY and POWERFUL ICE M3/M4. I expect the F8X and F87 to hold high value for years and one day be worshiped like the e46 M3 is now.

Note that the prices were already heading up before the chip shortage. The chip shortage just acted as another catalyst for prices to stay where they are or head higher.

I'd say late 2021, to 2022. Don't listen to these people saying never. Once life is back to normal and dealerships notice demand is down on used car, they will have to adjust their prices to stay afloat in the market.
