A look at an F8x clutch after 50k miles of daily driver duty

Hi all,

Just got my car back after having the clutch replaced under warranty as my 50k miles is up and the technician noticed some judder going into 1st.

Wanted to share these pictures with you of a stock f8x twin disc clutch after 4 years/50k miles of daily driving.

To me this looks like extremely modest wear and everything looks great. Can't say I've ever seen a used twin disc clutch before.

Hope you find this interesting!

Joe

P.s. As far as I could tell, none of those are heat spots - just normal clutch-dirt.

Interesting...very modest wear. Glad they replaced it under warranty. Have you done any track or race time with this car?

No, daily driver year round. Plenty of highway.

New clutch is grabby as heck - needs some break-in.

My guess is with my usage patterns a stock clutch would be fine for 150k.

Curious what the judder was you were feeling? I feel like in first gear I get something similar, but usually only in the mornings when everything is still cold.

So what do i have to convince my technician of to replace it; cause my first gear judders like crazy when oil is cold; best description would be bucking.

Do you know how much would have been if it wasn't under warranty to replace?

I had something like that on my 6MT F30, and was the dealer waved me off as "that's normal."

Haven't seen it on the F80.

Interesting. Clutch disk looks a little worn in but not bad. So what did the tech say? Warped flywheel or pressure plate?
