New 2015 M4. What should I do to it?
Hey everyone I just got a white, early 2015 f82 m4. Is there anything you know I should do to it? It doesn't have adaptive suspension or the comp package, but msotly everything else. Btw it's a manual at 42k miles. Any ideas?

I’d always recommend an oil change and maybe a brake fluid replacement, unless service records indicate they were done recently. Aside from that, drive and enjoy the car for a while as-is and take some time to think on how you want to modify it.

Hit all the weak spots, or atleast check if they have records of being done or have been done or with age if they have had an eye kept on them.
1. Intercooler - OEM/Replaced before? 2. Charge pipes - Often crack when tuned or with age. 3. Oil filter housing gasket - Leaks onto the belt can cause catastrophic engine damage if belt walks off pulley (will get sucked into crank) 4. Valve Cover + Gasket - Leaks on left side and PCV dies 5. HPFPs - Sometimes goes depends on fuel quality used or luck. 6. Oil pan gasket - Can leak with age 7. Rear diff bushings - Always wear out and will cause clunking in rear 8. Driveshaft Recall - Depending if your car is in the US and apart of the recall 9. J-Pipe - Not crucial but nice to have 10. PCV Breather hose - Addition to Valve cover 11. Crank Hub - This one is bit more niche, some will say do it, others don’t. Totally depends on if you believe in this issue or not. Personally I’d just do it for that peace of mind, and rather got risk that 1% chance of blowing an engine. I believe that’s about everything, some are more essential than others. But do your do diligence. In terms of essential maintenance. 1. Spark Plugs 2. Ignition Coil - Subjective (More so age) Dinan makes some nice ones with a better spark for a good price 3. Oil and Oil Filter 4. Air intake filters 5. Coolant - Bother main circuit and low temp circuit. 6. Brake Fluid 7. Diff Fluid 8. Trans Fluid 9. Pads and Rotors 10. Aircon Filters and Micro Filters Other things to bare in mind but not really super important but worth looking out for. 1. Water pumps - very reliable but usually it is the electric ones that go. 2. Oil Cooler - Bottom of the car most likely to get destroyed - Solution: Skid plate 3. Suspension - Make sure the struts are not leaking etc 4. Control arms and bushing - Usually pretty solid 5. Wheel bearings - Depends if spacers were run on the car or not 6. Vacuum System/Intake System - Visual inspection just to see if anything is cracked or brittle. Pretty easy to tell if the car is running rough. 7. Valvetronic Acuator - Only really an issue if the oil wasn’t changed regularly. Honestly seems like a large list but the car is very strong and a solid platform. It’s more so just maintain it and look after it. FCP Euro Video goes through the whole ownership of the cars See link: Don’t be scared by what I say or the list, even FCP says it looks scary but it really is not. |
