2016 M4 transmission overheat warning, clutch overheat red error
It's a 2016 M4 with DCT transmission, 57K miles. Never tracked, never pushed too hard. Transmission overheat warning comes in intermittently, car goes into limp mode, then very swiftly back to normal. It happens very rarely, on some drives (especially if driving "relaxed") doesn't happen at all.
However, two times the yellow warning turned into red "clutch overheated" message and car stopped, refusing to start until the clutch cooled off (a few minutes). Took the car to dealership, they diagnosed error codes 40DE01 and 800605. They say that it's the clutch - needs to be replaced (quoted 7.2K in parts + labor in SoCal) From my research so far DCT clutches simply never fail in these cars, definitely not below 60k miles What's recommended course of action ? |

This thread is a bit aged, but I just encountered the same exact issue with a dealership giving the same solution for my ‘16 M4. It’s probably a bad sensor having researched other threads in the BimmerPost forums
