Thank you SickFinga.
Doing some quick math to add up the numbers here (don't have time to get an exact figure ATM): https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=863649 it looks like there were about 10,000 E90 M3s sold. So, sales figures more than tripled for this generation. Great to see such strong demand for practical four door, high performance sport sedans. Before someone asks "Which LCI?" with regard to the tables above, it's the F80 LCI, which came in mid 2015 for MY2016. Last year's LCI was for the F82, and only affected the F80's headlights because they are shared with the F32/F33/F82/F83. I know people seem to call it "LCI 2" but as far as BMW is concerned there has always been a sedan/touring LCI and then a coupe/convertible LCI, and that's exactly what we got again this generation. There is no such thing as "LCI 2" with respect to the same model (same chassis code) getting two LCIs. |

Always nice to see where one fits in. Apparently, I have one of only 8 pre-LCI TBs in Canada. Cool. Also the MT figures are very interesting - I recall debating how big the takeup would be when the car first came out. Looks like over 25% of NA F80s were MT, much smaller percentage elsewhere......

There's almost as many sunroof M3s globally (12.5%) as there are manual M3s globally (15.5%)... This hurts my soul a little.

These are quite astonishing numbers.
As mkoesel noted above, the F80 (34,677) easily outsold its predecessor E90 M3 (9,674). In fact, there are more F80s with Competition Package (11,190) than there are E90 M3s from the entire production run. This is great news for fans of the M3 Sedan going forward. What's also interesting is the big drop in Manual Transmission take-rates. The E90 M3 had a 44.64% global take-rate for the 6MT (US/Can=53.43% / RoW=31.07%). With the F80 M3, the take rate for 6MT had dropped to 15.65% globally (US/Can=28.02% / RoW=3.54%). This is not exactly a surprising trend (and the trend is expected to continue), but it will surely influence BMW's decisions on transmission offerings going forward. Manual purists are likely to be in luck with the G80, but perhaps not with the generation after that.

Thank you. I first thought the Pyrite Brown color referred to any M3s with an eye patch.
OP, thank you for sharing the data. I have a basic question: Is this data strictly from BMW M Registry or does it combine the registry info with additional data?

I'd also like to see the breakdown of interior colors and trims. Packages/options would be nice too!

Amazed that they sold nearly twice as many Yas Marina Blues as they did Silverstones.
I'm glad they pushed it hard though. Most of the press cars and auto show cars and the promotional material were YMB. Such a great color! |

I've said since day 1: AY looked great on the F82.
....much less so on the F80. Could never really articulate why (too flashy to work on a 4 door car?) but....it was just a fact so everyone should just accept it and stop trying to argue it (by contrast, I think the TB and YMB worked way better on the F80 than F82) .... Lups and I once got into a long discussion about what worked with what and why. but that was probably ages ago.

Well... you kind of have to add in the Mineral White and then White outsells the black. Not that I find this good - I personally agree with (((myzmak))), the blues look great on the F80, the whites are ok, but damn I wish I had tanzanite.

wow thanks SickFinga. I honestly wonder how the F80 M3 production compares in total to the F82 M4.
Did BMW shove in their own Individual Ordered M3s with the 490 Special Paint? That 980+ seemed a lot. I am also curious on the F87 Manual take rate vs DCT considering how BMW were saying they are surprised at the take rate on that side. If the F80/F82 didn't have as many as we thought, is this a bad sign when the G80 comes out with an M xDrive option?
