No, I don't think that this is a total loss. Yes, it will cost some money to repair, with the hood, headlight, bumper and radiator costing the most. Probably $5000 to repair correctly.

Wow that looks far from a total loss. I'm guessing the insurance deemed the cost of repair is to exceed the market value of a 335i which led to the total loss.

Ouch!
I don't forsee this being totalled, but it will probably be a moderate on the CarFax. It's about $5k in just external body panels and the iKon headlight, plus the $ for R&R and painting everything. If your insurance uses OEM parts and a good body shop, my guess is $10-12k. They'll have to paint blend the entire front end into the passenger side door and driver side fender. Edit: Is that front radiator support/guard bent and pushed into it? If so then it will be more expensive since a lot of the front end will have to come off

The insurance companies use a simple formula, if the total repair of the vehicle is 70% or higher of what the residual value of the vehicle is, then it is considered a total loss. So, no I don't think it's totaled. But you'll have to wait and see what the insurance company says.

This reminded me of a time when my friend in his LCI 340i got into an accident and his insurance only covered "OE" Parts. He ended up with a "Hella Advanced" headlight instead 😂

It's all the things that you don't see. And don't forget to factor in all the little bits of plastics, nuts & bolts and sensors.
All these things add up quick. Oh, and that headlight definitely will not be cheap buying it from BMW.

I think bmw really makes their money on oem replacement parts when insurance pays. Our x5 laser leds apparently cost something like 5k for each headlight. That’s probably why they have such great lease deals 😄

And this is why insurance companies are quick to total out a vehicle damaged in minor accidents. As the repair cost often equal 70% of the vehicle worth. Especially when headlight are $10K a pair, are they made out of gold these days.
