Remus Mid Pipe Install Gone Wrong - any advice?
Hi guys-
Just picked up the car on Tuesday, loving it! But as of now its sitting on jack stands with no exhaust. I did all the cosmetic stuff and the spring install yesterday, everything went off with out a hitch. Woke up this morning and decided to knock out the installation of my brand new Remus midpipe. I was trying to get the AA midpipe, but was out of stock and I was told by a vendor that this midpipe would work with the stock exhaust, so I pulled the trigger and I was expecting a pretty straightforward install. The exhaust came off like a breeze. Did some measuring and cut the stock pipe off the muffler. I still needed to cut back a bit more off the muffler side, but.... Thats when I find out the provided clamps don't work, as the Remus MP is a 1/4" larger in diameter, which is what the clamps are designed for. In hindsight, I should have thought about that when I opened to box, but like I had mentioned, I didn't really have any cause to think this wasn't plug-n-play. I have traveled to a couple of auto parts stores trying to find something that will work, but to no avail. But even if I could find the right sized clamp, the Y connection and its weld points will be a problem, since I can't use a clamp over those uneven surfaces. Do any of you guys have any advice. Should I just swallow my pride and just bring it to a shop, so they can weld it up? I have been working on / modding my own cars for 15 years, so I am comfortable around the garage, but this has me stumped? |

Not sure which vendor told you that the mid pipes would bolt onto an oem rear section as that's definitely wrong. The Remus axle back exhaust and mid pipes have larger diameter tubing. I'm sure that you can have an exhaust shop make some kind of tubing that tapers down to the OEM diameter to sleeve over and clamped on or get something custom welded in place. Other route would be to get the Remus axle back section as well which should be pretty painless to do without any custom work.

Figured that was going to be the response, lol! I have been looking at them this afternoon... just sucks I'm going to be without the car for a few days. It's only got 28 miles on it should have just waited for the AA mid pipe to come back in stock.

go to your local advance/autozone/pepboys and get two reducers and clamps.
or you could mount the midpipe and then drive to your local muffler shop and have them weld it up to your stock muffler.

It might be able to work with Mid but it isn't suppose to without having it being modded.
Remus advertised as Axle Back, and Down-pipe back systems. The one Mid Pipe for certain that works with stock is AA. I would try to find someone to mod it but... when it comes to this I trust forum vendors more.

It is always either Rear Section only (Axle Back System) or Rear and Mid (Full System Cat-Back/Downpipe Back). I never heard of anyone just do Remus Mid before, this is very weird. 177sm Mind if I ask who told you Remus Mid would work with Stock Exhaust?

We've seen the Remus fitted to the Dinan rear section before.
Do you mind emailing me a few more pics? Maybe we can help you get it sorted out. The Dinan is the same sized piping as the stock system so "in theory" it should be possible to fit the Remus.

I ended up welding it to the stock muffler.... didn't really want to since I may eventually end up getting the rear section, but I didn't want to spend the $$ right now and wait a week for it to get here. Its back on the car and sounds great. A lot more "racy", if that makes sense.
EAS was the vendor that told me it would work, but I believe he figured it would work because there is a guy on the forums that has this setup, and according to his post he was able to clamp it together. I don't know how he did it, as I saw no way of clamping it down. Regardless, its on the car and sounds good. It was a way bigger PITA than I thought, but wouldn't be the first fiasco car modding has gotten me into to. Just be a bit more work if I do decide to get a rear section. All said and done.... just get the AA midpipe. |

If you can remember was there any welding required or did everything "fit up"?

The OP was suppose to use the tapered pipe in the picture, it was included in the hardware kit. I have the full system so it was unused, but Remus put it to my attention it is used for the axel back or mid pipes alone.
