Did you overheat your fluid (soft pedal) or the pads (hard pedal but no stopping)? I would have thought the XP10 would easily handle this car and it surprises me you had that issue.

It may have been the fluid then because I pressed the pedal and it went straight to the floor, but I'm running RBF600 so I would be surprised if it boiled the fluid (though entirely possible). Hmm, maybe I'll grab a set of XP12's for the front, install them only if needed, and run Castrol SRF for brake fluid and see how that fairs.

That's what I ran last season too... XP12/10 and SRF... worked well from a stopping perspective.

I'm going to be putting the pads on tonight for a track day tomorrow. Are there any recommended tools/techniques for getting those pins out of the calipers?

Thanks guys! It's looking like I wont have time to change the brake fluid. Is this likely to give me problems doing ~30 min sessions in 75* weather?
Looking at differences with Castrol SRF vs Motul BRF, it looks like Castrol is nicer, but more expensive. Are there other differences to consider? Thanks for all the help!

Thanks everyone for the help! I ran the RS29s at The Ridge on Friday and they performed great! No fade that I could feel after 20 min of hard braking. They did seem to be smaller than the oem pads, so applying the brakes in reverse causes them to shift and make a loud clank sound, and then again the first time moving forward after. The squeaks are pretty loud on the street for me tho. I will try the CRC brake quiet next time I install them to see if I could run them on the street.

slavearm gsrbri Did you guys re-bed the OEM pads? What procedure did you follow?

If you drove home with them on, they cleaned the rotors as cold racing pads are abrasive. I normally don't then re-bed the OEM pads.

I rebedded them. I jump on the freeway, run it up to about 90 then hit the first exit and slow the heck down in a hurry. I then flip around jump back on the freeway the other way and do it a again. Takes about 5 minutes if the traffic lights are friendly. Just don't slam on the brakes so hard you engage abs.

The clank is because we don't have shims for them yet. I don't bother ripping them off the stocks, since they are just going right back on anyways. I have found, that I if put some anti-seize on there like the stock pads have when you take them off, that they don't do it for awhile though, or at least not as badly.

I'm having terrible luck w/the RS 29 pads when swapping back to factory pads after track days. The RS19 that I used to use on my E90 M3 would clean bedded materiel off the rotors only one day (of street use when cold) after the track event...preparing the rotor for the factory pads. The RS29 pads don't remove much of the materiel when cold and now I'm getting uneven rotor deposits when installing the factory pads back on the car. It's my DD and DE car. Maybe it's this particular set (my first set)? Let me know your feedback. I never encountered a problem on the E90 with the RS19 yellows...and I probably had 40 track days on my E90 and used 10 sets of pads.

I had the same problem after a couple of pad swaps. I ended up leaving the RS29s on for about two weeks just to make sure the rotors were nice and smooth. But after that the stock pads feel nice and smooth again. I could visibly see patches of color on my rotors so I just left the pagids on until they were one contiguous color

I simply kept the RS29 for the DD. Not bad at all.

There's the slap between forward and reverse, a little peep here and there and more brake dust. But they are very livable without major anoying squeal.
