I think this is simple... The motor is underrated by BMW. Similar to the 335i it is advertised with 300hp but is actually around 325-330hp. So I think this new M3 motor will be advertised with ~415hp but will actually produce ~450hp.

That was my initial reaction as well but mine was more towards the sentiment that the competition is going to blow us away. Granted the current C63 AMG is a pig, but power is around 450 HP and TQ (more with the Perf Pkg). God knows what AMG will do for the new C63 AMG coming soon. The projected 415-HP better be a typo and be around 451-HP, or we're in trouble of losing our crown...

Spin away...spin spin. So only 415hp now? Originally the prediction was around 450, then it was around 430, and as the news is broken we hear "well it's targeting e46 weight". "Targeting" that weight only means they're trying to get it lighter than the current M3, which is necessary as it will be the first time in M history a car's hp isn't raised. "Targeting" 3400, 3500 lbs isn't the same as "approximately" said weight.
The cool-aid drinkers will respond with "but more torque!". Which are the same people that said torque doesn't matter when the S65 V8 was released. This is a disappointment. |

Remember my word today: the F30/F32 M3/M4 will be 430-480hp range, no way to be less than 430hp. This doesn't make sense from marketing standpoint.
I will bet $100 it will not be only 415hp. Last edited by iceman335; 01-30-2013 at 08:25 PM.. |

Might as well chop off your left foot & right hand because with an AMG you wont need them.

I can see BMW claiming 415hp. BMW know to underrate there turbo motors. I fell it will have around 450 hp and maybe over 400 ft torque. So people shouldn't get all caught up in what BMW rates it.. On there tubro motors there underrate them a lot

it will be weight reduction like they said f30 would be over e90. in other words you might see 50lb or less. dont get your hopes high.
on the other hand the new s55 will probably be just a fancy n54 with bigger turbo, more carbon build up inducing direction injection, water/air IC and underrated like n54. so 415 will probably put down 400whp. garbage in garbage out. should have stick with n/a and keep turbo mumbo jumbo for 335. |

The new M3 will be at least 5-10% faster than the current C63 AMG in every dimension based on these figures. And that's with 415 hp which they are saying is underrated.

Current M3 takes a 20k supercharger to get real gains. I think this motor with 415 bhp plus 20k would be insane.
