The M4 will be around 80k. BMW still has to be competitive to the Corvettes and GTRs and Porsche Carreras. I will be shocked if it comes in at less then 450 hp. |

Since it will be a seriously worked (by M division) and more modern 3 liter in-line multi turbo engine, I am expecting a noticeable difference in hp of this new M3/M4 compared to 1M but not necessarily in tq figures. 1M already puts around 400 lb.ft (550-560 nm) stock which is plenty and would be difficult to better it by much from the same displacement engine with more or less similar turbo technology. I believe real questions worth digging are: a) What will be the real weight of the car on the road? b) Will it redline around 7000 or go further and will it go up there strongly? c) Will it have a lag free throttle response? d) How will it sound, engine and exhaust? e) Will it be available with a manual? f) The hp and tq curves? Answers to those matter much more than simply advertised hp and tq figures. And a last thing, lots of people including myself always believed that 1M was essentially a test for the M division, before they make it large scale with following M cars, especially this M3/M4. They are going to apply what they learned and will invest on how well 1M was received. Isn't it so ironic that 1M was called the "parts bin car" borrowing heavily from E9X M3 and now the new M3 will be repeating almost exactly the same 1M formula?

It is funny when some people start defending bmw and say its gonna be so fast on the track and so on when its lighter, if it is gonna be really fast it needs the horsepower aswell. And 415 is not very much today. The competition is getting closer in the handling department. If this car is gonna be faster than a 500 hp car it better be fucking light. And aswell how many doesn't care about being fast in a straight line in the real world?

I don't understand why some people are upset about the reported HP figures, the car has not been officially announced AND they under-rate the figures anyway. Just wait until it is official, then bitch.

Yes, I said pig. Oink Oink. I hold Mr. Harris in high regards as well, but that does not take away from the fact that the C63 weighs a LOT. The reason why it performs the way it does is because of the nuclear missile underneath the hood. I was an AMG Specialist for Mercedes-Benz for 5-years so I'm well aware of the weight the the car. My previous comment in calling it a Pig was in comparison to our M3's.

Other than weight and power, I'm not so worried. Judging from my last few cars I clearly will make power and throw out all the bits and make it as light as I want.
I'm interested in some of the Equipment spec'd on that VIN that may be nice to find out about. M Drivers Package M Adaptive Suspension (I hope its much different than the current E9x Minor changes in EDC) Finally a Heads up Display!! But was hoping to see Full LED light option on there to gauge if those would be released. Other than those things only thing that bothers me of the current 3'er is the gauge cluster difference as compared to the 5/6 series cars. Obviously it will have the Signature M touches to it, but I want the full screen fun stuff on there too. Well anyway all of that in my car would be fun as I enjoy it for the year or so before I strip it down and do something fun with it as usual |

Actually prevailing rumor seems to suggest that the C63 will pack AMGs new 4L turbo V8 currently in development. No idea how much it will weigh but I'd guess about midway between an M156 and M157. The new V8 will probably be tuned to about 500hp for the w205 C63 with PP. Just as with past generations, expect the M3/M4 to make a bit less power and accelerate slightly slower, but deliver better performance overall (not least because of lighter weight). In other words, I suspect the 415hp S55 figure is provisional - it will be higher for the production car.

I'm more worried about the numb feeling, fake engine noise, and muted exhaust note that affects all the new generation M cars.
Not to mention the price... |

415 hp stock means you can throw in around 5 grand worth of aftermarket stuff and push more than 550 HP, easily. Turbo powered cars are such a joy to mess with to gain performance. I really wonder what we're gonna be able to do to this car in a matter of a few years. Without a doubt, stroker kits are gonna come out and people will be pushing 1,000 BHP. Coupled with the looks and the poise of the M3/M4? It's a no brainer for many. I'm opting for a GT-R right now since I don't want to wait and don't want to deal with the first MY issues that will inevitably arise. But either way - the M3/M4 will kick major arse once the little kinks and niggles are sorted out.

I think maybe some of the confusion/assumptions may be because the article stating "multi-turbo" S55 sounds like it might be more similar to the N54 than the N55 because the latter has a single turbo twin scroll setup not multiple turbos like the N54.
Having said that, I can see it now..... "We have seen what the 3(M3) was capable of....now....prepare yourself for the POWER of 4! The all-new 444hp BMW M4!" If only it was a 4.0l turbo, the advertising possibilities of the FOUR!

BMW underrates power. /thread
I'm in as long as they don't fuck up the steering. They did a damn good job on the M5 that it doesn't deserve to have that lousy steering. I hope BMW have learned from their mistake.
