I personally don't see that big a difference between the GT and a wagon (as far as function and practicality go). Not sure why people are so much hating the GT, and at the same express a burning desire for an f81. I personally would rather have the GT over a wagon. Wagons just have that stigma in my mind. Like old volvo wagons from the 80's. Not digging that. And for some odd reason, wagons just don't sell in the US and are not received very well.

Fair enough.

I think it is simply that people have an opinion...

Yeah the 3GT looks good in M-sport and will certainly look cool in M guise. They should do it!

LOL when I first read the title, I thought, 'sweet! a crazy version of the M3!'..

I wouldn't mind if they made a GT though. I like it..

Dogs don't like being put in boots (trunks) generally, granted removal of the parcel shelf makes it possible but nowhere near as good as a tourer for doggie headroom

I sort of agree with you, Alpina should certainly have a presence on BMW's website, it's hardly as if BMW don't make money out of them.

I don't see an M7 as pointless but I think a HyperCar would outsell an M7 if it was priced competitively, I hardly see any 7s on the road and never any other than the diesels.

Absolutely there should be an M Performance version of every model...

...even though it's a bit of a gimmick it visually differentiates the top end non-M model the way Audi has done so successfully with their S models. Something automatic and almost unconscious happens when I see an S model versus the 35i/d model; only briefly, but the attention is drawn to thinking the S is something special whereas the 35i/d is a normal model.

If we don't get an M3 touring give us an M Performance model at the very least!

M7 like the sound of it, as the numbers creep higher maybe we'll reach that mid-engined ///M Hypercar we all are dying to see! M7 would be a good test bed for an S version of the V12 engine.
Agreed! I would love to see an uptuned version of the N74 V12 in an M7. Developing that engine and only putting it in the 760i and Rolls Royce Ghost has to be a big drain on R&D costs. Put a revised DME and a new exhaust on that thing, Bring it up to 650+ HP and you've got your Hypercar Engine. Hell, stick it in the i8 and call it an M8.
Agreed excepting the i8 bit which has already been confirmed as not happening

I predicted this a few days ago in the thread about the rendered M3 Touring, its just nuts, lots of enthusiasts would buy an M3 Touring, but I don't think very many M3 GT's would sell.

Idiots.

Like a few people mentioned, BMW should make a Z4M and a supercar / hypercar. The latter would further bolster the sporting image BMW boasts vs. its competition. BMW should continue playing to its strengths not just filling every niche product category. These are not economy cars after all. There is an element of desireability that you need to maintain.

Well, you are telling me. In 2 years or so, I would pick me a used E63 AMG wagon with a heart beat.

BMW already has a sporting image without a halo car but we have a halo car it's called the i8 and it is the most progressive interpretation of a sports car concept but is entirely different in every aspect. I have one for evaluation and parked alongside a Veyron in Geneva the past weekend.

Which car pulled the most crowds?

Niche products are essential because that is where new customers lie.
No and I repeat No manufacturer can overlook products that generate new customers, which is why the competition are now developing models for niche markets.

BMW are not economy but Premium. They are also participating in a global market not just North America.
But in order to maintain market share we do offer premium economy models because these are the biggest sellers of their respective segments cars such as the 320d and 520d are sold to not only customers but government and business fleets.

Are the new customers being targeted with the i8 those that currently own or will shop the Tesla S, Fisker Karma, Audi R8 e-tron and MB AMG SLS E-cell or is the target demographic more ambitious?

The car has been presented to the BMW board this past week.
If you like the 3er GT M-Sport then you will like the M3 GT it has been M orientated with broader wheel arches and a similar aero packet albeit slightly amended because of the 3er GT's height. The 3er GT's facia stays the same.
How did the BMW Board like the M3 GT ?
