These are preproduction cars/the touring show cars.. I think its agreed? that BMW is still working on the engine note.
I'm actually not going to show anyone this video because I am so embarrassed by that exhaust note. I can't believe the host actually transitioned to the exhaust note with a smug smile on his face, as if it is amazing. Last edited by absoluteis350; 01-24-2014 at 09:19 AM.. |

Fantastic video showing off the sculpted body and fat wheels. The sound part is just a few seconds of the video and doesn't really say much as there seem to be reflection of noise from the walls around it.
Idle (or the little idle we can hear) doesn't sound to good in the video. But it sounds crisp and aggressive when revving it |

Yikes, almost sounded like a lawnmower when revving it. I wonder how doing a muffler delete and/or removing the cats for straightpipes will make the note sound. Better or worse. Hmmm...

It wasn't revved high enough, maybe 4000 rpm at best. I hope it sounds like the N54 when unleashed.

FYI, Engine sound starts at 3:25. I skipped right to it. Not bad IMO. It's unique. Does not sound like a 335 and does not sound like an S65. It has it's own sound which I like. A bit raspy, a la E46 M3. Not bad, will do final judgement in person.

After 6 years of the V8 this will be an adjustment but the adjustment won't take long the second you hit the throttle.

When you take into consideration the sound distortion experienced through youtube videos as compared to hearing it with your own ears, (the reason the video host is smiling) the sound of the M3/4 is pleasant in my opinion.
I like it ....... |

It was hardly being revved... The exhaust on a S65 being revved 500 doesn't sound like much either... Plus you can tell it wasn't in sport +
Sounds like a mix of S54 and N55 with some Rice Krispies thrown in Oh well at least you will help stop global warming and save more squirrels with this motor |

Call me crazy but I thought it sounded excellent, both at idle and while revving. The idle had a nice choppy sound to it, almost Porsche in flavour and the revving had a nice rip to it; gave me goosebumps.

Car is revved at 4000 rpms at best therefore I won't make any crazy statement about how terrible it sounds..I'll wait for some lengthy driving video to create an opinion.
Overall, both cars look amazing, although favoring the m3 sedan.

I am sure it will sound better in person. My S54 M coupe doesn't sound all that great in videos taken but in person sounds great. I'll wait to hear it in person to judge 100%

Felt the same when the F10 M5 was released, not impressed.
First thing to go will be the stock exhaust on our M3/M4.

I don't care what it sounds like as long it delivers the performance it's supposed to. Amazed at how much people are hung up on a subjective metric that has no bearing on performance whatsoever.
